Angry Gasoline Smell

I have an '86, non-turbo 13B that always smells strongly of gasoline. I have checked high and low and found no leaks, so I can't figure out where the smell is coming from, and if it's a vapor (explosive) hazard. Has anyone else had this problem, and what mught the problem be?? I'm baffled, but the RX is using a lot more gas than I think it should . . . please help if you can . . .

The most common place for a leak is the pulsation damper on the primary fuel rail. You can see it under the manifold, just behind/to the side of the alternator. Old fuel hoses can also start to leak. Fix it immediately; a fuel leak can easily cause a big fire.

My 94 had a exhaust gasket leak that caused a similar issue. Under hard throttle, it smelled like gas. Might be another possiblity.

check your FPD as soon as you can. my car smelled like unburnt fuel and it was due to a leaky FPD. double check all your lines as well.

Sounds like you are running rich. Not sure what can cause this in a Rotary engine tho (or if it is even possible), but maybe someone else can chime in.

EDIT: Maybe an injector is stuck open?

Q Q: would running rich cause a quick evaporationg grayish blue smoke to puff out at high revs??? Also my 83 after idleing for a few minutes blows this grayish blue smoke as well??? Could this be seal problems or normal behavior? It is a 12A bridgeport if this helps?????

I just went through this with my car a month ago. On one of my primary injectors, the Oring on the top of the injector was bad and allowed gas by, soaking the top of my engine. Now, I'm no expert but that could probably be a fire hazard.

At my car, 91 turbo II, i can smell petrol fumes very good if i have a full tank of petrol. After i filled her up for example. I can only smel it around the back of the car, not at the front or under the hood. I tought about a presure valve or something, there seems to bee something near the tank.

Has to be the exhaust fuel bearing... has to be.

I do have an exhaust leak by the cat and my car always smells like gas when I crank it...
