WA Flooding problem?

1980 rx7, one day it ran perfect, next day it wouldn't start up. It would crank over very sluggishly. The battery, alternator an starter are all working good.
Everything I have read, says its flooded. I am working on de-flooding it, but battery died so I am letting it charge for a bit. Would this be the problem? Or could it be something else?

Thanks!
Kyle

Yeah, you'll have to deflood it, then find the cause of the flooding. Pull the plugs, rotate the motor using the front pulley, turning it counter clockwise. This will push excess fuel out of the plug holes. Clean the plugs, reinstall, pour 2 ounces of motor oil down the small barrels on the carb, then start her up.

The oil helps to rebuild compression, which is lost when flooded.

Now, to determine why it happened. Drive the car until warm, then shut it down. Remove the air cleaner and see if you have fuel dripping into the carb (common issue).

Post back with results, I'll try to check back a couple times/day.

Good luck.

Thank you for the help! I just had time to try it, and it worked! It's running like a champ again! Except we towed it with the spark plugs out of it while it was in gear to deflood it! Thank you so much! I am going to try to figure out why it was flooding tomorrow or the next day. But when i used to start it up, I would pump the gas a little while starting it up, could that be it?

Every carb is different when it comes to starting. It's like asking how to turn a woman on.

With mine, I usually give her 3 or so pumps to start. Back when I actually had a choke, I think I would have it out about 50%

Good luck.
