PA FD - Plastic fan sheared off

Something has not been right but I have not been able to pinpoint. Today while cleaning up the battery I noticed one of the cooling fans looked funny. Then I realized it had sheared off its base. This may explain the intermittent check engine lights. Luckily I have not been driving it hard or long. I have no idea how involved it is to replace this part. Anyone with experience? Or can offer suggestions? Appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Unfortunately I've had this happen to me as well, when you're dealing with 30 year old heat soaked plastic, it does eventually get brittle.

It's easy to replace and can be ordered from Atkins Rotary. Just make sure to get the correct side / fin count.

The shroud can be removed while the radiator is still installed (easier if you take the upper radiator hose off, so do a coolant flush while you're at it) and it's a single nut to take the metal Center off the fan motor (easier with an electric wrench) and pry it off.

Just check to see if the motor hasn't heated up and warped the shroud plastic (that was the cause of my fan failure, it looked to have melted into the plastic, sending the fan off Center and caught the shroud) otherwise I'd recommend replacing the shroud as well like I had to.

Axton - Thank you for the detailed response. Glad to know I'm not the only one. Also good to know it is not that difficult to fix. Will contact Atkins and get the correct parts ordered. Thanks again.
