I did it VT once. Serious pita. Wound up spinning out and teetering on a guard rail. Getting up the hills was a challenge as well.

I wasn't using snow tires but not sure just how much better it would have been with proper tires. I don't think it would have made enough of a difference.

Put snow tires on and keep the rpms low and i don't see why it would be any different than any other RWD car in the snow. If you know how to drive int he snow, then it shouldn't be a prob.

Cool snow wheel drive !

I ran a 1989 GTU 5spd non stop daily for two years straight in the winter i put 4 50lb bag's of rock salt in the back and she was still squarely but so much fun i just got use to it had 15s on her by the end of the winter season the tires were feathered from the toe but other then that ^what was said upshift/downshift early keep R's low and don't go down any hill faster then 35 *** end tries to come around and wiggle I did it you can to just know your car!.

Good luck

Been driving in snowy areas every year since I got my license, both FWD and RWD, so all I can say that if you just have proper tires and some common sense you'll be alright.

i've driven my tii in BC the previous two winters.. both had unusually heavy snowfall for our area, at least 4-6" standing snow constantly.

i had snow tires and it was fine as long as you were smooth with the gas and the brake, didn't try to go too fast, or try to do anything suddenly.

just use common sense.

slow down, think far in advance, plan everything out carefully. if you get stuck, you're basically screwed.

if you don't HAVE to drive, don't.

Don't do it without snow tires on all four corners.

For several years I drove my FC in the winter, both with snow tires and without. I stopped because of the rust issue and I started working on the car during the winter. Then for a little while I had 1st gen beater which was pre-rusted when I bought it. For the first year, no snow tires. And then from then on, snow tires.

There is no issue with driving an RX-7 in the winter other then rust. Anyone who says they are uncontrollable, unsafe to drive, all over the road or otherwise impossible to drive in the snow needs to be questioned because it is highly like they don't know how to drive.

I took a trip up north in my 87 FC... no snow tires or chains... ran into some hardcore ice and packed snow unexpectedly. It was fun, I didnt wreck but I was going slow over the mountain passes at 3am so the road was all mine. Its sketchy, you can easily spin around but if you know what your doing its not that bad.

I've been driving on bald fronts and brand new rears and it handles perfectly fine~ And my alignment is way out of the way too~ I'm just worried about my underside cause I know its rusting out~

I drove my GTU yesterday, with the lame-*** open diff, around the city yesterday during a blizzard and all I had was fun. Bit slow gong up hills, and you spend some serious time sideways but it's totally manageable
