FB-S5 turboII swap questions

OK, so I've spent about the weekend searching and reading up on the subject, and I still have a few questions specific to my project that I can't find an answer to so I hope ya'll can help shed some light on the subject. I have an '85 GSL-SE, currently stock except for a racing beat long primary (street port) exhaust, into which I'm going to swap a S5 turbo 2 engine and transmission. Side note, I am NOT running a turbo with this setup, but a Camden supercharger instead, and I will be running the engine carbureted with a distributor, no electronics. I know that I need the front cover/OMP/oil pan from the GSL-SE to drop the motor in. My questions are as follows:

#1--Does anyone have a link to a good writeup on the turbo2/FB tail shaft swap/mod? Beyond knowing that this can be done I can't find a walk-thru. Can you even do the tailshaft swap on an S5 turbo trans? I have read that it can be done on an S4 gearbox, but that maybe the S5 is somehow different? Also, what do you do for the trans mount/what parts are required?

#2--Has anyone used the stock F.I. fuel pump with a bypass style pressure regulator to get the pressure down to carb levels? If so, did it last?

#3--For the Camden blower guys, have any of you tried messing around with E-85? what were the results?

Thanks in advance!

welcome to the board.

1. not quite sure if you need to touch the tail shaft housing for what you want to do. the two obstacles most people contend with are mounting the Type R tranny and getting a driveshaft build to mate it to the rear. The Type R is a completely different animal from the Type M, so i don't think the tail shaft housing swaps apply here.

2. it has been done. however, i believe i read that fuel temperatures become an issue when you regulate really high pressures down to really low levels. you can research that for yourself and make the decision what you want to do. i can't speak on pump life in that situation.

3. there is a section dedicated to alternate fuels, so when you get enough posts, you may want to check it out. i know there are quite a few guys running superchargers, but (1) i can't think of any names off the top of my head (though i think Jeff20B showed interest/plans in building on one so you may trying searching using his name) and (2) i don't know how many of them are running Camden as opposed to the other types.

thanks! I'm still learning about the differences between turbo2 and na gearboxes, but since my primary interest is ease of swap, at this point I think I've pretty well talked myself out of putting the t2 in and am going to stick with the factory trans and change the clutch/flywheel setup out on the t2 engine instead. I plan in doing a full build thread once I have enough posts to be worthy, as well as asking the alt. fuel guys what they have learned. Thanks for the help!

the N/A tranny will be just fine for what you're planning to do. i agree that you should keep it simple.

That's what it seems like, and I can also source a replacement fairly readily. My primary concern honestly is keeping it as easy as possible to go back to the stock engine/emissions setup thanks to CA's crap smog laws. Every two years I get the joy of trading out parts. I figure if I set it up right it'll be a fairly easy one-day gig, as I'm going to package all the regulator/fuel system stuff etc. on the blower engine so I should end up with a small amount of wiring, throttle linkage, and hoses, nothing more. That's the idea, anyway.
