VA Failed Emissions Prob uggg

Well after getting the exhaust replaced and the cat inspected I went and got it emmissioned

First Fail was

HC 529 @ 15 and 517@ 25mph
Pass everything else

Had a local person check it out and mess with the A/F ratio and what not. Come to find out the previous owners messed with the timing and such...and also the alternator was almost off (oboy)

Well I bring it back in running so lean that it would always... well almost always stall in first.
Second Fail

HC 471 @ 15/ 433@25

Now to play dr fix it. The exhaust I put on ended up being a single magnaflow exhaust. The shop said my cat was good. Everyone that keeps looking at my numbers is saying my car is just dumping fuel. . .

Please advise for my next step. I have until the end of March to fix this.

Hmmm. Unsure if it is original. But the exhaust shop said it was good.

Those are very high HC numbers. They're easily 10x higher than my last results. Either the cat is bad, or you have an air pump / air injection issue. Has anyone messed with any of the emissions solenoids or vacuum routing? How about the ACV? Is everything hooked up properly?

I'm not exactly savy under the hood. I am doing the basic maintance now with plugs and filter. I am unsure why its dropping so much damn fuel. Next will be injectors. Just put some BG44K in the fuel and the car seems to like it.

You should still probably figure out whats wrong with it.... I know none of us Rx'ers are tree huggers, but those HC levels are really high...

My HC's were off the chart.
The cat Looked new,but the previous owner hollowed it out to get more performance.
Live and learn.Tap the cat with a wrench and see if it goes "ting"!

Well we figured out an even bigger problem... This is prob why I cannot pass emmissions. The o2 sensor is only hooked up to the wideband and not the ecu...... facepalm. Going to trouble shoot it on friday and check the solenoids also. Hope this all works out. I will keep yall posted

Dont feel bad, my first run through emissions got me a 3000+ reading. I now have the engine producing only 19 HC's at idle and 300 off idle. Run a gallon of De-natured alcohol through the tank as you go into inspection. It brought my numbers down ( From 1600 HC) to 201, then I replaced the cat and ran the 19. Off idle is still failing for me. If I were you i'd check to make sure your thermostat isn't stuck open, or removed totally.

IF you decide to run denatured alcohol at the test,,FILL UP immediately after the test,as it will play havoc with the fuel system. It may be good to fool the Machine But it is not necessarily good for extended running in the engine.

No thanks. Honda isn't a product i'd own, unless it was an S2k, or a NSX. Been RWD all my driving life, hell, I never owned a Bigwheel. hahah.
