Eunos Cosmo 20B
Hi guys.
Im looking to buy a Cosmo, but the Cosmo has an issue. Sometimes order to start, the starter wont kick inn and you need to turn ignition on an off. If that doesnt work, the gearleveler need to be moved up an down a few times. Then it will kick inn the starter an the car starts. What is wrong? Wont buy a car with expensive repair right away. Also where do you get parts for a Cosmo?

welcome to the forum. i would guess one of two things. either it's a worn out ignition switch, or bad starter. no idea where to get parts except just to search online.
could also post a want to buy ad here:

This is in Section K of the WM-2009 Workshop Manual, which I proofread last week before beginning to render it in English. I was going to make a big announcement, but the cat's out of the bag now... Currently about halfway through Section F: Fuel & Emissions.
Either the Inhibitor Switch needs adjusted or the Selector Lever does. For testing, you can bypass the Inhibitor Switch connecting the input pin to either Park or Neutral pins with a Jumper Wire, then seeing if she'll crank. The TWS Unit will complain a bit, but she will fire up if the rest is in order.
I say this with the greatest respect. Do NOT start throwing parts at it. Situations like this are why I translated the WD-2004 Wiring Diagram book.
If after diagnosing the problem, you determine it does need a new starter, NF01-18-400 is also used on the FD. Stick with OE Mazda, you'll hate yourself if you try and cheap out with one from a parts store.

Just out of curiosity, what's the Chassis/VIN Number of the Cosmo you're eyeing? I'm pretty active in the Cosmo community and there's a fairly decent chance I might know the current owner already. And if it is one with the CCS (Car Communication System), maybe you could help me out with something too. Send me the VIN and I'll run a Build Sheet on it to find out.
