door lock issues

yesterday morning i went to get into my car and as of right now the only way to unlock it is to crawl in the pass. side and lift the lock.(something in the tumbler assembly broke) but when i went to open the door it wouldnt open. it stayed locked. i tried for about 5 minutes or so to unlock it before jsut crawling across from the pass side. when i got to school i had my mechanics teacher help me unlock it. it turns out that a spring that brings up part of the latch back to position broke. and because this isnt brought back up to position it causes the lock to get stuck and takes forever to get unlocked. i'd show you a picture of the spring but i dont know where it went. it was about 1 in long in total. and had a hook on either side. the coiled part was about 1/2 in long and the remainder was the hooks. all i know is that this needs fixed bad!!! i cant lock my car right now due to this.. i also searched the black dragon catalogue and couldnt find the spring in there. if anyone knows what im talking about PLEASE HELP!! its on an 87 no power locks or windows

Sounds like you may be better off getting the entire door handle assembly. This is a relatively normal thing to happen on the 2nd gen cars (86-91/92).

no its not the door handle assembly thats causing me to not be able to lock the doors. its a bit farther down on the actual latch thats causing me all the issues. if its not raining tomorrow ill take a couple pictures and show you guys. but there is a small spring that is gone and wont allow the latch to go back to its resting position causing the lock to get hung up

It's the tumblers. I had the same problem and took the lock out to a guy who knows how to retumble locks. It's the springs inside that get worn out.

no this is a completely different problem than the tumblers. thats one issue but the other is somehwere closer to the latch that actually keeps the door closed. in the morning ill have pictures!
