Differences between turbo 2 models.

Hey guys, I am interested in purchasing an rx7 turbo II in a couple months and had some questions regarding the s4 and s5 turbo models. As I will be daily driving it are there any differences in reliability between the two? Also as far as mods go, is there a model better or cheaper for getting to around 300 whp? Are there any interior or exterior differences?
When purchasing one of these cars, is there anything I should be on the lookout for?

There's a few "buying guides" out there, if you don't mind doing some reading. Not perfect but somewhere to start I guess. Good luck

I just bought a 88 turbo II also. As far as the block the major differences between s4 and s5 is the dowel pin casting. S4 dowel pin castings are not as thick as the s5 though 300 horsepower is not impossible with a s4 block. I’ve been told series 4 blocks can handle around 400 hp before the irons start to crack.

For sure on the interior, i know on the S5s will have automatic seat belts...which are pretty cool since you dont see that any more, but that also changes a bit of the interior pieces up as well to where you cant (you can but it'll look funky if you care) use some S4 pieces. S5 has the circle tails which is what everyone wants (including me) and i believe the S5s were also wired for fogs. I think the cruise control is also electric on the T2s vs vacuum driven on the NAs.

Seat belts are one difference although my 89 T2 (imported) has standard belts, not sure if thats just a jdm model thing. Id definitely go for an s5. Block off plate for the omp is super hard to install on the S5 and you'll have to leave your pump hooked up and just ziptied in the corner somewhere or the ecu will throw a fit.
