Exclamation in desparate need of info 84 rx7 12a

I am sorry this is igoing to be so long but am trying to give as much info as I can so I can get the right help.

I have an 84 rx7gsl made in may of 84 with a 12a motor 4 bbl that has been sitting up for sometime. was in good running condition except it backfired when turned off. I loaned it to my brother at that time and the clutch went out hence the sitting up as i had 2 other vehicles at the time now only have rx7.

I replaced the clutch and knew cat(it had 3 on it) was stopped up but hubby drove the car to town and back anyway. said he heard loud pop and when he got back home whole exhaust was glowing red. Took the car to muffler shop and they took off cat and just put straight pipe and muffler on. car has no power cant get past 4000 rmp in any gear and not past 3000 rmp in 5th gear when i manage to get to 5th gear. (manual trans) drags down on any incline and backfires when shifting unless you keep foot slightly on gas pedal.

new spark plugs and wires carb getting fuel. all vacuum lines seem to be in correct place and order but cant get timing set right when i did get it right car ran so bad couldnt even go down the street.

I know from research and talking to others that the fuel pump psi should be between 2.8-3.6 but hubby has 15 psi on it figure i need fuel pressure regulator.

i dont know how to do a compression test on it and not even sure where to get the right tool to do compression test. I cant get any info from mazda nor will they even look at it (as many may already know) Hubby not mechanically inclined so am doing this on my own. I have a chiltons manuel but no trouble shooting guide cant get haynes here.

am in the dark on this and i desparately need this car running. I live in a one horse town and it is 30 miles to closest town. Not sure what other info anyone may need to help me so just ask and I will try to supply the right information.

Oh one other thing the oil pump that supplies the oil into the gas (am not sure on this) has two ports coming off of it and am not sure how they are suppose to hook up or to what they hook up to nothing in chiltans about this at all. someone told hubby to just add 2 cycle oil to fuel(?) not sure i trust that info. thank you for reading this and for any help at all as far as I know no mods have been made to car or motor which has only 86,000 original miles on it.

2 stroke oil is fine to add to the fuel if your OMP is broken. Do a search for Premix to learn more.

Okay, good news for you. Your motor is fine, and your exhaust system may have been fine too. What happened is that you lost the leading ignition, so you have no spark on the lower spark plugs. That is why you have no power, and your exhaust sytem overheated.

Verify whether or not you have spark on the lower spark plugs. If you do not, which I'm quite sure will be the case, then we can trouble shoot from there.

Fuel pressure: 15 psi is definitely too high for the carb. You will need a fuel pressure regulator. Here is an article I wrote which will detail what to get, where to get it, what it will cost, and how to install it. https://www.rx7club.com//showthread.php?t=529605

Post back with the results of your spark test, and we'll continue from there.
