Question confused

i bought a 84 rx7 a few months ago and i replaced the distributor cap the, spark plugs with the wires, cleaned the gas tank out, replaced the fuel filter, and the pump, and i changed out all the catalytic converters with the mufler. and my problem is when the car starts up the catalytic converters heat up and glow red. o and it hasnt been smoged yet if that has to do with anything which it probally doesnt. so can anyone help me out? thanks

You may have reverse the leading and trailing spark plug wires.

It could be very rich.

The dizzy may not be in the correct position (a few teeth retarded instead of factory spec).

Yeah, most likely a timing issue. Make sure your wires are routed correctly, as Aaron stated. Once that is done, verify that you are getting spark on the leading (lower) spark plugs...

timing is very serious to a rotary. it can do a lot of harm if not adjusted properly and will quickly cause converter meltdown due to the rich running conditions. you will also need to keep your air pump. it not only supplies fresh air into the converter to help clean up the emissions but it also serves to help cool the converter.
