Compressor surge
Hi,
What can be done to get rid of turbo spool up surge?
Its just a small surge but still its there.
I have a Apexi RX6 turbo (TCW77) with a P22 turbine.
I know a larger hotside like a P25 would help but is there any other alternatives?

hmm, but is that really the correct way to go?
to have a "leaking" bov?
btw, what if i dont run a bov
edit: btw, i think you missed what surge i meant. Its during spool up not when i let of the pedal to release pressure.

K..sorry.
My turbo makes the noise when I let off,and that was due to my BOV not being opening to vent during decel.
Works good now,though.
I tried without the BOV and Ya,I got a lot of noise..what I told was compressor surge.

it would be better if you try to describe exactly what you are experiencing as you accelerate and spool. even if I end up being useless, someone else would be able to help you.
FD?
is it something that recently started?

as i understand it, surge would occur when you lift. (i.e. the trapped pressure tries to stall the compressor), in which case misterstyx69 would have been spot on.

Larger exhaust side will help as the turbo will spool up later but i was wondering if there is any faster fixes.
FD, no. I just posted here as i already was a registered member for other reasons.

Just wanted to update my own thread.
I think my problem was how i had my boost controllet set.
Its an blitz dual sbc spec r. I accidently had it set at 0 while i was out testing boost response.
Ones set to a more propper value (15 in my case) the sound was gone.

Yeah, if you're hitting surge in accel the turbo is feeding more air than the engine can nom up.
(On a compressor map, you're to the left of the islands)
If you can't fix it with boost controller gain (to not close the wastegate as soon), you'll need a different turbo.

It was actually the opposite, when i raise the gain it holds the wastegate closer longer, and i have figured out that the sound was not from the turbo but from the boost controller solenoid which is located so that the sound from it can be heard very good inside the cabin. I was however tricked to think it was the turbo as it sounded just like a surge sound. Was however the solenoid working really slow at releasing air or something like that i guess
