choppy

Maybe its just how an rx7 sounds...I have a 1990 rx7 gxl..
heres the problem. everytime i start the car it will jump up to 3000rpm untill i give it a little gas. then it will be at about 2000rpm...you cana also here it has a pretty choppy sound to it...i know i live on a marine corps base but everytime i look up there not helos..i thought it might be the spark plugs. i took them out and they were disgusting. i bought new ngk spark plugs and put them in. the car started right up and went right to 3000rpm wich i thought would happen anyway. i hit the gas pedal and the rpm went back down to about 2000...i was pretty happy because i didnt hear the choppy sound anymore..i let it run a little bit longer and then it was happening again...? can anyone gimme a clue on what it is and what to do...i would appreciate it a lot....thank you

On cold start it will normally jump to 3k, if you kick the gas it will go down to about 2k until it warms up. It does it to get the pre cats hot for emissions.

Describe the choppy sound in more detail... or better yet take a video of it and post it.

Yep that is normal. All RX7s do that. Most non-RX7s do that also. Maybe not as high as 3000 RPM but other cars do it as well.

Definitely post a vid if possible to show us what you mean by choppy.

ok well..im not going to be able to put up a video right now. im taking off the radiator. whatever jerk owend this before me put an after market radiator on with a fan that was even connected right on...he also decided to leave the stock radiator on to. the aftermarket radiator was smokin after a couple revs or a 5 minute drive...also the low coolant sensor kept going off so im trying to get down to the point of that to....i would appreciate any advice on that to...i have a lot of work to do before i turbo this thing lol...
