I'm so close on pulling the carburetor and I really need it off to rebuild it with the kit I bought. Any suggestions on how to get this last part off? I tried pulling it off but it didn't budge or do I need to unscrew something?

 

I assume this is the stock carb on a 1st gen, correct?

One thing that gets people is teh stub in the middle that holds the blue air filter on. You need to unscrew that stud as it goes down through the carb and bolts into the intake manifold.

Basically, there is this stud plus 4 nuts holding the carb on. Once you remove these (and all the hoses and stuff), the carb should come off.

 

My carb can come off without that stud. I think it just goes down in to the base of the carburetor to just hold the airhorn on.

 

sorry but without some kind of pic of what ur dealing with there's no way of knowing what it is u can't remove.

 

Well I unscrewed the 4 bolts and there is this metal rod of some sort keeping it in. Yes it is first generation. And sorry I thought I posted this picture with the original post.

 

That's the OMP rod. You remove that tiny cotter pin (make sure you keep the pin/don't lose it) and slide the rod out.

 

Ya thats the problem. I took and kept the pin out. But I can't slide out the rod. Or if there is some special trick. Any tips on a easier way to slide it out? I been spraying wd40 on it every now and then but no luck.

 

Try removing it from the other end of the rod, at the OMP. Its not the easiest to get at, but all you have to do is disconnect it and when you remove the carb it will come off the OMP down below.
