Best way to drive an old rx7 to get the most miles from it before rebuild...?

The title says most of it, but let me clarify: I want to know DRIVING tips, not maintenance tips. I know those by heart, unless there is a specific think unique to rx7s.

What may make this a little harder is that I wish to take it AutoXing, so it will see the cones about 3 times every two months starting in the spring.

My gtu has 186XXX miles, and it runs beautifully, if a little rich. I'm going to be replacing plugs, wires, maybe o2 sensor to fix all that.

Anyway, fire away!! Thanks, Zack

If you got the maintenance aspect out of the equation (Taken care of) then Drive it like you stole it.
Personally I like the upper Rev range.(5k and up)

Thanks Styx! Is that it? Haha... and another little question: How easy is it to repack the front wheel bearings (mine are starting to go bad)?
Thanks all...

Wheel bearings are a snap.
Take the brake caliper bracket off, remove the grease cap, remove nut.
Pull hub off.
Get a Pick and take the rear seal off.(carefully)
You could also reverse Thrust the bearing so that it will knock the seal out too.(put something in so that the bearing pushes up against the seal and knocks it out).

Sweet! Sounds simple enough. I'll get some grease and do it within the week. Any tricks to pack it without a bearing packer? I've seen people pack in on their hands, like knocking the bearing against a little puddle of grease on their hands. Is this the easiest way to do it?

Cool beans...It's nice to have a mod give advice so much. Thanks again.

If you don't have one, you could borrow or rent one. Better to do the job right the first time than twice (or more).

My suggestions (incl some maint. tips specific to rx7):
Run premix
Let it warm up before beating on it
DO THE MAINTENANCE: coolant flush is especially important
Repalce t-stat neck (if plastic) with metal. This bit cost me a rebuild
I like castrol gtx20w50 for no more than 3k between changes. Use good oil filter.
General tune-up may or may not fix running rich. With that many miles it's time to do full tune-up, fuel filter etc. These cars tend to run a bit rich anyway. A $100 used SAFC can tune the fuel curve; worthwile investment if done right

My '90GTUs sees the cones a few times a year. it is a blast. Enjoy!

Premix? sorry for the noob response, just not sure what you mean.
And also, mine is non-turbo, so it's 10w30 for me, right?
oh, and SAFC? Is it an aftermarket computer tuner or some such? Thanks!

Btw, as far as cones go, I'll be purchasing some conv. bbs wheels for $100 from some guy (crazy, right?!) and V710 rcomps new for 275 (for the set?!). Autox will be FUN...

He is mentioning Premixing.
That is adding 2 stroke to your gas(1oz 2 stroke to 1 gallon gas). This is on;y done if you delete your Oil metering pump(OMP).
some guys will use it for "insurance": if they feel the Omp is not adequate, but really Unless your OMP is totally Fubarred then you do not need to premix.
Bearing Packing: put grease in your hand, put the Flat side(not the rollers) into the grease and sort of slide it across the grease. It will get into the grooves and you should be able to see the grease change color(from old to new) if it is not completely dry of grease.
I also roll the bearings into a touch of grease too,and then a blob of it on the spindle, smooth it on there and Voila,Presto..done!
If ya followed this we can now call ya Slick!
