Backfiring. Is it normal?
Good morning ladies and gents. I'm in the process of buying a 1994 rx7 that is located in California. I've seen videos of the car running and it seems to run fine, but the owner told me the car back fires. Is that normal? He mentioned that it started happening after he installed the exhaust on it and that it was pretty normal but I don't know if it is. Can some one please tell me if this is correct. The car has 47k original miles and engines are stock besides getting the twins reloop to run of the waste gate to max 8psi. Thank u.

Usually when you free up the exhaust the car will get more power and tend to backfire under Punching the gas, letting off throttle etc.
Some guys change the exhaust just because it is 'cool' and they like people going "hey, your car is shooting flames..it is on fire!"..blah.blah!
IF you have changed the exhaust and still have the stock setup elsewhere I would be looking into The "boost creep" aspect as this happens when you do change over the exhaust.
Since it now flows better the car will have a tendency to boost creep and that is not good.

Is this a reason I should stay away from this car? The car is in California and I wouldn't be going to see it before buying it, besides sending it somewhere to get it inspected.

That,I cannot comment on since all the Car's info is not available and if it is compliant with State laws, etc.
Boost creep can be fixed.
If the car gets inspected by a reputable inspector and passes State requirements then it is your decision.
Personally,If I can't touch the car,I don't buy it.I never buy a car sight unseen..or In the Rain..
( I can see why you need to be unavailable though, with the type of work you do.)

The car passed all Cali inspections for the state. I was thinking of sending it to a rx7 shop up there and see what they say. It is very difficult for me to leave Pensacola to go look at it as I have a 350 miles radious I have to stay in.
Here's a list of the parts that were added to the car.
-M2 style stock mount intercooler
-Pettit downpipe
-Rx-7 store hi flo cat
-Tanabe cat back exhaust
-Intake hard pipes heat wrapped with K&N filters
M2 chipped Ecu
-Pettit AST

sounds ok..but as I said,I can only follow what I am seeing, and what I would do If I were buying it.
I gave you a tip or two by Pm..
IF you did already get the car then Yes,a Rx7 Shop is 1000% percent your best bet to take it to..( I added a Zero there for Boost!!!..lol!)
I wouldn't trust my car to any other shop,.,well unless it was to change a tire.I do my own oil.
