MN Antennas

So they don't sell brand new OEM antenna assemblies anymore... such a shame. Mine doesn't retract all the way.

Can they be repaired? Or do people usually just buy new motors?

Is the motor still working? You'll here it running or straining trying to "do it's job".

If the motor works and the antenna just isn't moving, my mechanic told me to pull it all the way out and jam it back in. should work, but you can only do it one or two times.

I pulled mine up about 8 inches and just left it there - i didn't have the guts to yank it out...

Motor still works, goes all the way up in normal fashion. Just doesn't retract all the way.
Interesting that you say that though... I actually did force it down (almost all the way), leaving a painful imprint in my hand. The battery was dead though and the car is at a shop for the time being, so I haven't tested it yet to see if that did anything.

I had great luck on ebay and amazon finding a good selection. Try both and see if that helps...

I would check the local salvage yards (You're from MN right? UpullRparts had a FD a little while back)
otherwise try disconnecting the motor from the antenna itself and see if it still doesn't want to go down all the way. Chances are good it's clogged with Minnesota road grime goodness

Yeah, from MN... Maplewood. I will have to try UpullRparts.

I looked on ebay a while back. Lots of aftermarket ones as I recall. Will have to keep checking.

Thanks for the replies.

The antenna mast has a slotted plastic strap similar to some of the garage openers on the market. Typically that's what breaks and with a little patience it's something that you could replace yourself. The assembly has to be removed and the old mast mast and strap replaced. I've done it a few times on my car and others. The last time was a couple years ago and you could still buy either the entire assembly or just the replacement mast and strap.
I suspect the mast used on the FD was used on other MAZDAs (and Ford PROBES) of that era and later, at least for a few years. Try calling Ray at MALLOY MAZDA
https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...mazda-1033616/
He's a trusted source here for OEM and an FD owner himself. If anyone can find you one, he can.
