94 RX7 tachometer doesn't work/messes up

Hi everyone, one of the RX7's I'll be looking at has a problem where the tachometer doesn't work, or he says sometimes it has a mind of its own. He claims its a common problem... is this something that is easy to fix?

It isn't Uncommon. The fix requires the removal of the gauge cluster to do some delicate re-soldering. Not expensive, but not exactly easy either. A search in the 3rd Gen section will give you a better explanation.

Mine had an issue with the tach and speedo not working when cold. Is it completely inop or intermittent? Always assume the worst though, so research the price of a new gauge cluster and work off that information IMO.

I just had the same problem. I pulled apart my gauge cluster and the speedo has tons of circuits and solder joints. Since nothing I did solved the problem, I bought a whole new speedhut set up for around 800 and it was very worth it! Another solution could be using a phone or GPS for a speedo for a temporary time.
