'87 RX7 help
a few questions from a rotary/car fixing noob..
first and most important. I just got an '87 RX7 NA for a great deal ($115) it runs good other than it is over heating. tonight I flushed the system and there is no blockage and looks clean. it had no thermostat what is what I thought/hoped was the problem. so tomorrow I'm going to buy a new water pump since its the only other thing my dad or I can think of. If the pump doesn't fix it what else could it be?
why when I close my doors after locking them do they unlock them selves? (it locks right if you hold the door handle up while closing.)
well that's it for now.

You need to hold the handle up when closing the doors.

I want to change my stock style Air filter to a cone style one. what will I have to change, or is it as simple as taking the stock square box off and attaching the cone air filter?
thinking about this one...
air filter
do I need to get one with the MAF adapter with it?

+1 Get the car in proper running order and replace all the soft lines around the engine before you go buying parts that really wont provide much of a gain. And once you've replaced those and made sure everything's good to go, start with exhaust before intake. As someone once told me, you don't want your car breathing in through a pipe and out through a straw. Just trying to help out a beginner not do the things I started to do with my FC years back

what/where should I be looking at?
that's a good point, I'll get the overheating issue fixed before I worry about getting an air filter.

I replaced my water pump last night, from 1am-7am-ish, lol. a lot of that time was looking for tools . I tested it on my street, and it never went past half way on the temp gauge. After letting it run for a min or 2, I took it to the street and did normal driving up and down my street once, then heavy driving (floored it) and the temp never changed, Woo-HOO!!
do you guys think its finally fixed?
also my horn doesn't work and needs to be fixed before I can smog it and register it. Could it be a fuse, if so what one?(I can imagine it's tied in with another one)

the door handle this is so you dont happen to lock yourself out..
the air filter will need an adapter so it will bolt onto the mass air flow sensor. then your filter should attach to it no problem.

overheating not fixed......
I wanted to see if my A/C worked so I sat down in my car turned it on and cranked the A/C.(which I think needs to be recharged) after about 10min the temp gauge was at about 2/3 the way up....I don't like that.
My next step is to take the radiator out and take it in to a shop to get cleaned out. (idea is the flow might be restricted but not clogged.) after that I'm at a loss as to what might be causing the engine to overheat.
