BC 85 12A Wont Idle

so i just swapped in a different trans into my 85 FB stock nikki carb, i think. and now it doesnt idle properly. it smokes quite a bit when i rev it past 5 and im running 1quart of lucas oil stabalizer in place of 1 quart of oil. it is quite hard to cold start, have to crank it a few times and pump the gas. idled perfect before trans swap. i did NOT pull the engine when i swapped trans. does have a small exhaust leak right after the only cat i have i think its the pre cat, i cant line the exhaust up perfectly. could this be my problem. there are 2 wires i didnt connect on the trans after the swap because i could not unplug them because they were covered with grime, so i cut them... i figured it was the neutral sensor which doesnt work anyway. and i removed and didnt replace this hose that goes from the air intake to the exhaust mani heat shield, didnt repace heat shield either. figured this was unneeded stuff.

The hose that goes from the air intake to your exhaust manifold is the issue more than likely. It's probably causing a major vacuum leak. So replace it and see if it runs correctly.

The 2 wires you cut are probably for the reverse lights, did you change or add new fluid to the transmission? Did you remove the air filter housing during this process? If so there are a couple vacuum lines that née to be reconnected otherwise it will give you idle issues.

Im having a similar problem with mine, i have a 84 fb gs and it idles around 2k and seems to run very rich. The hose from the exhaust to the intake box is there but isnt on tight. Can that really cause that much of an issue or is it tuning problems as well? And if it is tuning how do i know what carb i have to use the proper diagram.

Correct what you know is wrong, exhaust. Then go from there. One thing at a time is easier.

That hose that goes from the exhaust manifold shield to the bottom of the air filter housing is to help it warm up faster. If you removed it and didnt plug it. Try plugging it or try reinstalling it.
