12a engine wiring help for Lotus seven project

I am building a lotus super seven that uses a 85 12a car for the donor car. The car ran great a week ago and now i have pulled the motor and installed it into the lotus and i need to know what is the bare minimum to make the motor run. I think the coils need 12v constant but as far as the ignighters go i am lost. i would like to not use the factory harness because it is in bad shape and plan to wire the sensors for temp and oil pressure myself. I just need to know how to make the distributor work, is there a box i need to wire? any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

All you need is the dizzy (ignitors are on the distributor body) and the coils.

You'll find the factory service manual in the 1st gen FAQ which will give you a wiring diagram.

Nope. The ECU (really just a collection of simple circuits and relays) is only for emissions purposes and won't be of any help to you.

Sorry, I don't know where else you can get the manuals. I almost always just refer to the Haynes. Worst comes to worse if you can't find it, I can post the schematic from the Haynes for you.

ok, i have looked high and low for 3 days and can find nothing. I just need to know how the battery, alternator, ignitors, and coils are wired together. i hate you buy a service manual when the only part of my lotus that is rx7 are the items mentioned abovei really appreciate your help with this and i would totally understand if it is too much of a pain to post the diagram or verbally describe how to wire the ignition. Thanks again

I'll see about posting the schematic from the Haynes at some point.

I know this is an old thread, but I am also building a Lotus 7 with a 12a and just pulled the engine, so now it's time to install a minimal electrical. As I understand, once the coils are energized, a (30 amp) momentary switch to the starter silonid (sp?) shoud start the car. A simple alternater look to the battery will complete the circut. Now that's what I am hoping so perhaps you can enlighten me. The OEM schamatic is NOT useful as ALL emissions and accessories will not be used. Bare bones engine is all I'm liiking for! Thanks... I will cross post this on the LOTUSUSA.COM website as others seem to have this issue as well

The OEM schematic is fine, just ignore all the emissions stuff. It will tell you how to connect the coils and ignitors.

Thank you, n\but the OEM has way to many accessories, and p\statsus sensors so I am still looking for a engine only wire-up.
