If I had it to do over I'd get a complete car and sell what I didnt need. If I had done that, I wouldn't have to worry about things like missing interior parts and windows that still don't work, and 100 other things that have pissed me off. I've probably spent 3k on "miscellaneous" parts, not to mention the 3200 paint job because the replacement body panels didn't match (I could deal with less than show quality paint, if it's all one color).

Trust me, I can provide documentation that the swap is cheaper with a whole car to start with. And that's including the fact that I only paid $3500 for the chassis.

you dont have to buy one that runs suds

just one that wasnt in a fire and was in the process of being parted out

buy one without a drivetrain

thats fine...but find one that wasnt a fire-car

If you buy a complete running car (which can run anywhere from $8k to 35k) you will have a powertain to part out. You're capable (some are not) of stripping the motor of it's injection system and all the other assorted parts. That's the best way to make money, there's always guys that need replacement stock parts. I've heard of guys paying for most of their swap just by parting out what they didn't need.

This is true.. but if you wait long enough, every part on the car WILL need to be replaced. It's just a matter of patience

Damn I didn't realize I haven't updated this thread in 6 months. I feel even worse since I still haven't found the time to finish the car.

Updates.. updates...
Headlights are mostly done, I need to re-do the wires since they are REALLY close to the tires and like to rub when I hit a bump.

Got a new mild cam installed.

Installed new rear trailing arms and solid diff bushings.

Picked up a set of Jimlab Unobtanium bushings to install.

Installed Rotary Extreme front signals (pretty clear ones instead of the old yellowed stockers).

Bought a complete set of AutoMeter Phantom gauges to completely redo my dash and get rid of the old ugly stock gauges that don't even match.

Bought a new coolant overflow bottle to get rid of the $5 autozone special that leaks.

Bought a new steering shaft to replace the one that's been hacked up, extended, and now halfway stripped of it's splins from being screwed with so much.

That's about all I can think of at the moment. I did manage to get my webpage setup, although it's nothing special. I already hosed the photo page so half of them don't show up, too

Eventually I will get it organized and broken down by subject so it willbe easy to navigate and find something you want to see. It'll get to be a lot more pages too. I'm even going to have a Fuddrucker's meet section

Yep. Going to Seven Not Stock in May http://www.team140.com/sevennotstock/

Will be in Ocean City for Cruisin Weekend in May also. I'll be down for Roy's RX7 BBQ whenever he has that. And except for March since I'll be in Cancun, I am trying to hit every Fudd's meet I can. I'll also host another BBQ at my place but we're house shopping so I don't know where or when.
