NYC owners, advise about parking...

I'm going to school around 19th st and 6th ave, anybody close know of a good spot to park around that area????
What about the Bronx? Finding $8.50 worth of quarters to feed the meter is kinda hard @ 7 am...
TIA

If you dont mind the distance, the inner roadway surrounding Stuyvesant Town has free parking. I don't know what it's like at 7am though.

Take the train! Besides, with quarters you have to go back every hour and refill.

It's an apartment complex located between: 1st Avenue and Avenue C and 14th St to 20th St. If you goto maps.google.com and zoom in on manhattan you'll see it.

Beefhole's suggestion to take the train is better though. No tolls and no traffic.

very true, i live in lower manhattan and parking is a nightmare. unless you get some earlybird specials at some parking lots. on 21 st and 9th ave there is a central parking lot, that gives you that special. in from 3:00am to 7:00am out by 6:00pm is $18.00 thats a indoor garage. other than that, i say take the MTA. get a unlimited 7 day metrocard.

here around chinatown i also know a good spot, $12.00 for 24 hours underground parking. and you take your keys. send a PM to twinturbo93. John lives 5 blocks from that school and can tell you more about parking there.

If you really need a spot.... My pops has a parking lot in the Bronx he can charge you $90.00 a month for parking... That comes out to be $3.00 a day... Then you can catch the 6th Avenue D train that is only 3 blocks away.... Total monthly charge including an unlimited monthly metro card $150.00 including parking!

You cant beat that with a stick!

Let me know!

Dwayne

hahahaa, parking downtown is very hard. Good thing i go to school in harlem. There ample amount of parking as long as you get there before 8am. Just certain places it isnt good to park your car, you might come back to a peice of charcoal lol. For some odd reason they dont steal cars around harlem they torch them. I guess a bonfire is cooler than a stock radio.

What are you studying manny?

Good Luck

bleung, the $12.00 lot is on Cherry street, near the manhattan bridge, located under the pathmark supermarket. you dont have to leave your keys, which I love that fact. the first 2 1/2 hours are free if you are buying stuff from there also.

Well, I had been taking the Hudson Line Metro north but thats a big hassle...i'm either way too early or a few minutes late in the morning and on the way home i have to wait 40 minutes. Now top that off with the weekly pass i was gettin the first few weeks @ $60 and i'm looking for alternatives.

the quarters i didnt realize untill this morning...hourly what a concept!

NYC scorpio.

Metered parking in Manhattan is completely ridiculous, 10min/quortes in most places around where your looking to park, so that's out of question.

Where bleung suggest a free parking, it's not completely a bad idea, besides that's is little to far of a walk wheere ur schools is at, than what's the point driving to the city if you still must use mass transit to get to your destination, + I'd be afraid to leave my car there 1 minute alone.

I think beefhole's idea makes the most sense here, unless youre willing to spend some money and get on of those outdoor daytime parking spots, otherwise take a train.

I can most certainly help you out if you're planning to park around my hood, get you a good spot on the street once in a while, the problem is that the streets get cleaned 4 days out of the week.

Another way is, I can ask few garage owners I know around my area and try to get you the best deal possible...

NYC sucks for parking, big time.

Only manhattan sucks for parking. These cleaned these damn streets 4 times a week while in the other boroughs its just once a week. Now they do that **** on purpose to give you tickets for being parked on the wrong side during cleaning.

Well i live in queens and i drive to school everyday. Im always in the city. From 34th street all the way up to W145th.

Cuase i keeps it real!

ANd im lazy

Thumbs down

Here's a little parking update for you Manny.

Yesterday I took my bike and out and went around asking few different places in the neighborhood of your school for monthly daytime parking, and boy was I surprized with some hirrific numbers I heard, made my $375.00 parking pyments look like a joke. and I park indoors, day and night.

No joke but there were few places asking around $600.00 - 650,00 +tax only for daytime parking a month, not even indoors... so the prices varied from $350.00-650.00+tax ...

My 2 cents:
Leave your car home and use mass transit, unless you know you gonna be fast, in and out, and you can leave the car for an hour in the meter or something..
