Ain't life grand? I got a gf that's into cars. Go me.

I like a weekend meet because there's a higher probability of more people showing up. Whether it be because you're the die-hard enthusiast or just plain curious. I've made a lot of new friends when there's more people around. I used to be in other car groups and I've rode-along to other car group meets.

To me, there's a clear advantage for weekends. I know that some people work on the weekends or including the weekends, and that's cool, so the planning will have to keep that in mind. Work hard to play hard. Weekend meets you can find out who lives or works near you. Some people still haven't figured this I-NER-NET thing out and have no idea that fellow 7 owners are blocks or streets away. "hey, how you doing, nice 7, where you do you live?" - "right around the corner" - "no kidding, I didn't know". The other benefit is that since there's a lot more people, social networking is better instead of seeing the same folks or 1 or 2 new faces every so often. When I was in the Prelude club, I met a couple cool guys. Didn't know one lived on the outskirts of annapolis and does mortgage stuff. Now if I need mortgage questions answered, I call him up. We don't even have the same generation of car. He had a 300Z TT fully built but couldn't drive it because it was too dangerous. My other buddy had a M3. Can't drive a honda with 18's and lambo doors to the executive offices ya know - clients won't take you seriously.

It's hard to get in an existing group because you're the odd person out or you feel singled out. Reading the NE forum, most of you all know each other in some sort of way. I bought my 7 about 6 months ago and I have a million stupid questions to ask. Sure I can ask or search here, but I'm a visual person. I need pictures and someone pointing out "make sure you change that, you can leave that, don't worry about this". It'll be good for the new people and also all the new people can grab/steal/think of ideas for their cars.

So far, all the 7 meets I've been to, everyone's been really nice. What I really noticed is that there's none of that "damn y0, I beat a porsche turbo becuz I g0t skillz y0". Differents strokes for different folks I suppose.

Maryland Meet. You want it, then let's plan it. I'll use this thread for planning then if everything solidifies then I'll post an official one outside of this. Maybe some of you other folks can give me a hand, me being the noob and all.

Option 1:
Weekend of Sept 18th/19th (3rd weekend - 3 weeks from now)
Saturday or Sunday

Option 2:
Weekend of Sept 25th/26th (4th weekend - 4 weeks from now)
Saturday or Sunday

Option 3: Sunday Oct 17th (Civil War Drift, Ripken Stadium)
Sunday

For the times, let's just say 1pm for right now. Bring lunch with you or eat before you show up. Hang around, make some new friends, share some war stories, share your knowledge and if we keep chatting, we'll all head to some place to eat. Which brings me to the next item:

Where and what to eat? I'm not going to guess what everyone's cashflow is, so let's say cheap eats or a decent non-uber-expensive meal. Keep in mind, places you suggest must be safe, well lit and able to handle/park at least 10-15 cars all at once. (assuming if that many people show up). For me, it doesn't matter whether I'm eating a mechanically pulled chicken nugget or a big juicy steak, it's about the company I'm with.

Option 1: McDonalds on route 40
- it's a lame dinner BUT it shares a parking lot with a kid's clothing store that's never used. You could land a helicopter and no one would care.

Option 2: Applebee's on route 40
- better dinner and the same kid's clothing store sits right next to it.

Option X:
- you fill in here

And that's it. Thanks for reading. Post your comments/suggestions.

^^^ this is one of the reasons why i love this guy.

my only thought is...when a date is set...either you or i run over there and sortof let them know ahead of time about it. my experience with the j-krew meets in white marsh have been positive because they meet at a set location(and have for the past 3 years), and have permission to be there. let them know early enough, and we're in good shape. it helps if they realize that money will be made, and that the group's not rowdy. hell, some malls will allow car groups to show up as long as they're made aware of it ahead of time. i know one of the coordinators of the Fairfax town center meets, and he's been pretty successful with the meets because he lets them know in advance.

so - who's up for meeting?

Yep I already put that on my to-do list. I'll probably talk to both mcdonalds and applebees since if the meet happens, we'll be more on that side then the left side. The left side of the parking lot has a good handful of stores like a Hollywood Video, a used video games place, heavenly ham, cleaners, some high-end audio store, etc. I don’t think we'll have that many people that it'll cause some sort of grand-scale parking lot interruption. Honestly, I think that the people at mcdonald's couldn't care less. Like you said, if there's money to be made, then people listen: average meal is say 10-12$ so 15 x 12 = $180 not to mention drinks or appetizers and whatnot.

My vote: 25th - meet in the afternoon, dinner at applebees.

ugh...hatchi...sorry, but i hate that name. i never called them that...they were just fun little hatchbacks.

Tenacious - yes, i do have a boyfriend, have for almost a year now; he's YF19, and he's been posting in this thread. like right after me. please read that too slight sidenote - check out this month's sport compact car for some REAL old Corollas. i.e. TE31, etc. they did a 3 or 4 page article on the toyota enthusiast show that takes place every spring in Long Beach. i swear one year i'm going...but i'm flying. no way in HELL i'm driving my corolla out there.

Tofuball - who be you? not with it...sowwy. if i DO know you, beat me with a wet noodle or something to remind me.

...wait...nevermind. looking at your avatar, i know who j00 is. hi.

Hachi action is actually harder than it looks - to me at least. The car needs about 6 miles to get up to speed and only then it's actually somewhat workable. Also the wheelbase is short so sliding it and letting it hang out to the extreme is pretty hard. I think that the 86 is the hardest to drift. My friend has one with a 6-puck clutch and 4-way link and all sorts of silly stuff. It's cool how everyone in the world knows 2 japanese words now because of Initial D. You'd be surprised how fast you'll get your post ripped apart on the the drift forums when you mention I-D.

Tenacious: A month is ok for you? I'll put you down as a "prefer Sunday" but the Saturday is still good for you right? We try to find you a good car woman. Thanks for the welcome.

Akuma: We'll have to find you a ladyfriend also.

Yep the meet date is roughly one month from now. 25th or 26th @ 1pm

I was wondering. There's a good handful of people that need to get their cars back on the road. Why? Is that? Barring the super-porting or the full custom jobs or waiting for parts or the money thing, what other issues are there? What I was getting at is:

We got a lot of folks here that seem to know what they're doing. Why not everyone take on one car at a time? I know tofuball knows what he's doing. Fong also. And most of the guys Chris knows. If we picked one person's car - would it be possible for an entire team of "us" to fix 1 car? I got some tools and can borrow a minivan, my buddy's got a full size big delivery van also, so tool and parts transport isn't a problem. The person that's getting their car worked on needs to supply meals (pizza, sandwiches, whatever - no beer, have to stay sober while fixing the car) and, worst case, a place to crash if everyone can't do it in one day. It'll be a weekend thing. You think this idea would work? Slowly work our way around to everyone that needs help. Eventually everyone will be on the road. What do you all think?

...while that's going on, think we could manage a clutch install on the cav? lol.

seriously...that's a good idea. that way EVERYONE can be on the road eventually...and those who are still learning(me, a few others around here i'm sure) can pick up tips and tricks here and there...this is especially useful to me if i end up getting a 7 in the slightly distant future.

I have found It works better when you get a wad of cars, and you have about two people per a car, and whenever there is issues, you call people over.

But the team thing has lead to a lot of idle people, at least in my experience.

I belive the most efficient use of people is if one 'experienced' person and one 'apprentice' person each work, per vehicle.

Just IMHO.

As a side note, we have two RX-7 SE Automatic parts cars for sale. One white (with a wad of parts for $300) and one black (with no title, runs great $400)

EDIT: (I post this here because I will ship NOTHING)

Well there inlies the problem. Yes, it would convienent and more efficient if we get everyone together and get as much done as possible with everyone there, BUT ... For the people that I've talked do, their cars don't move. So getting all the cars together won't work.

This idea is for those people that have had their car in their garage or sitting in their driveway or in front of their house and have had zero luck it getting it even started, idling or close to working. There's the extreme cases where people I know are doing complete rebuilds and need an extra set of hands or a person that's done it before.

I see your point though, a that's also another good idea. I've been learking around here on the forums and most people have problems with their idle or something's not quite right or need tuning or whatever. That would be another good weekend get-together. Write out a comprehensive checklist and just do that list on everyone's car. Compression test then TPS adjustments then blah blah blah and go down the list.

So now, everyone's in tip-top shape.
