Well I got a little carried away, the motor is suspended above the car thanks to my make shift extention cable. I jacked the car up, attatched the cable and lowered the car.

I plan on just taking teh darn thing apart right there over the engine bay. My buddy is ready to sell me everything I need for the TII swap which I learned has 70K miles on it.

Or I can just throw another random 13b in while I rebuild the TII motor.

Opinions?

Hmm. 70K aint bad if it was treated right. Did you get a chance to compression test it first?

This thread is turning into a ghost town!!!

Anyway . . .

My GXL-SE died on the highway today! What in the world?

I was just cruising along and the tach dropped to zero, and I lost all power. (The engine wasnt doing zero, just the tach said zero (A CLUE!)). The car wouldnt start or anything. I tried starting it, and if I held the starter on and feathered the gas, sometimes I could get it to go to 2000RPM, but it would die as soon as I let off the starter. After it sat for a few hours (on the side of 495) eventually I could get it to start and run like crap for a minute before it would die again.

During the time I was on the side of the road (from about 9:00AM till 12:20 or so) I noticed some SHADY stuff going on! Like this windowless van pulled off the road into the shoulder and checked the locks on the exterior before driving off again. Later, this woman in a PT cruiser drove past me, sat for a minute, put it in reverse and backed all the way up to me, got out, stared at me, and then ran off down the onramp. It was strange. Eventually she came back, glared at me for a bit, then got in her car and slowly drove away.

Theo came and towed the car (woo) and I think I made him late to work. Thanks Theo!

After work (3:30-4) I'm gonna head over to The Farm and try and see what the problem is.

yeah alot of people will try and steal what they can from broken down cars. If the cops come they just say thay are the passanger and you went to get a friend to do a road side rescue. But yes leaving your sports car on the side of the highway or road is not a good idea.

Yeh, we got it towed. There was no way that I was leaving my car on the side of 495. Corey did something similar, if I recall correctly!

I'm willing to bet it's ignition related... if the tach drops to zero, your trailing ignitor at least stopped firing... I'm willing to bet leading did too... When you got it running like crap, it probably was running on trailing only... I'd say check the wiring for the leading ignitor and coil... and then check the coil itself.

I belived it was ignition related, so I replaced the coil/ignitor unit, and replaced the plugs, and tested the wires. Still had the same problem. I checked fuel pressure while I was at it, and it is perfect.

I checked the leading ignition with a timing light and it was doing some crazy stuff (like firing at the complete wrong times, or for short periods of time, not firing at all.)

SO, I replaced the whole ECU! STILL does exactly the same. Think the CAS could be bad?

Ken, would you mind bringing the ECU and TechEdge over today? Also bringing your Ociliscope, and yourself? I want you to check the signal going to the leading coil, and the signal coming from the CAS, and tell me how it compares to what it should look like.

I am out of town for a wedding this weekend but when I get back Jason we can plan that free Hot Dog and Hamburgers RX7 day at Dan's shop. I am going to order all the parts from BDC's t04 list so we can get that huge snail strapped on for some tire & pavement destruction.
