Ok, everyone. I am giving everyone enough advance warning on this event. Sunday May21st is the next Tidewater Sports Car Club autocross at ACU-4 on Little Creek Amphib Base in Virginia Beach. It is two weeks from this Sunday. I will list it as an event on the club web sites.

FWIW, spectating is free, but you have to sign up in advance to get on the list so you can get into the site. Even Navy people need to sign up as ACU-4 is a limited access location. If you are not on the list, you may not get in. Only the driver needs to be on the list.

If you are considering trying an autocross, this is one of the, if not the best site on the east coast. TSCC events are great events for first timers, they have an excelent novice program that is helpful at your first few events.

Here is a link to information:

http://www.autocross.us/forums/index.php?showtopic=1690

To register, go to this link:

http://tidewatersportscarclub.com/

and click on "On-line E-Registration for TSCC Events". Registration opens on May 7th, and will close at midnite Wednesday May 17th.

If you are thinking about giving an autocross a try, either come run this one or come and watch and see what happens. This is a great event to watch.

Ask Bryan!!!!

I figured the cahnces of there being a meeet while I was in town were slim, but it was worth a shot. I'll probably be tearing into the car while i'm in the area and I have access to tools and a garage. It's high time I fabbed up a tubular maifold for my turbo. Anyone wouldnt happen to be in need of: a carter fuel pump w/ holley fpr (essentially no miles on it, I switched out fuel pumps to go to a turbo setup in the middle of my project), or a locked 12a distributor? I might be selling my t2 exhaust manifold that's had the bolt holes drilled out to fit a 12a if anyone wants that either. Just seeing if any of you local guys need any of those things, trying to get em off my hands...

Of course I will. This is what I do.... I try to never miss ACU-4 events. They are awesome!!!!

Some friends of mine ran at VIR today and yesterday at the NASA event. It sounds like they had a great weekend.

They have loaners if you don't have a helmet. But if you want to get one, this particular club only requires and DOT approved motorcycle type helmet. But most, if not all of the other clubs in the area requre one that is Snell approved. Snell helmets have years of approval on them. A new one comes out ever 5 years or so. I think the oldest one they permit now is a 1995. Any new one you get will have the 2005 or 2000 approval.

There are two different types of Snell Helmet ratings. One is M (for motorcycle duh!) and the other is SA (for special application, aka racing). The SA rated helmets are more expensive than the M rated helmets, they are also better. Some of the groups that put on track events at VIR, Summit Point, etc require SA rated helmets . I just checked and Mazda Drivers Associates will accept either a Snell SA or M rated of 1995 or later. NASA only requires a M rated helmet. Those are the two groups you are most likely to run with at first, so If you are thinking about maybe running track events in the future, get a Snell 1995 or later (probably at lease a 2000) helmet. If you aren't sure just live with the loaner helmet at your first couple of events and see what you think after you have been around a couple of events. If you can't live with a loaner helmet (something I can definately understand) ..... well let you budget decide. I always tell people to put a $10 yard sale helmet on a $10 head...... Needing a helmet in an autocross is very, very unlikely (it is about the safest form of racing there is, probably statistically safer than driving on the street) but I am not going to say that it NEVER happens. But it is pretty close to never, you would probably make more of an overall improvement in safety if you started wearing a helmet on the street... but it is required....so....

If you wnat an SA rated helmet, this is a good place to order them from:

Thanks, I guess I'll probably go ahead with a loaner for now. Get some more info and make a purchase when I know more. There seems to be quite a few other novices registered too. I put myself in the SS class from the newbie's handbook, convenient that it actually lists my car in that class. However, I was wondering what's the difference between the SS and AS classes? There's already 103 people registered, so far 3 7's.

Probably the best choice of class for now. I think your intercooler bumps you into ASP or something, but don't worry about that for now.... I'll give you plenty of first time advice between now and then. I guarantee you that if you liked the Zoom-Zoom live, you will love ACU-4 events in your car.

Yeah.. that is mom. This is probably our last event with the car before the Shelby convention on June 29-July 2 at VIR. This is the closest to home the Shelby Convention has ever been. It was at Charlotte Motor Speedway a few times. Has been at Pocono, and Lime Rock, but otherwise it is a long haul. I will not miss this one!!!!

This is my first one I have been to not being in the community of Cobra owners.

4 7's in the race or waiting now. One FB, mine and no idea about the others, FC's?... There's already 25 people on the waiting list. Cal, got anything you suggest I read about autox beyond the newbie guide?
I need to replace the fuel filter, no Brian, I still haven't done it. I've got a new set of pillowball bushings I need to install too. Fun fun fun. While I'm at it, I guess I should have a look at my brake pads.
Anything else I should look at Cal?

Hi, I have been in workplace hell again. I am here a few minutes.

Yoshi.. Important thing is to make sure your battery tie down is good and holds the battery tightly in place. I don't know tire pressures that FD's typically run, but I would guess at least 30 or so in the rear and 35 or so in the front tires. Get air before you get there. Other than that just come out, relax and enjoy it and try to do as well as you can. It is lots of fun.

Pete is the FC I have some pictures of on our site, the sort of pweter color one. His car is an 86 as I recall. Carl's is the white 79 that was at AIK with us recently. Tyler posts somewhere, I just can't rememebr where. I thinkhe posts here in the Richmond section or something.

Kenny, Phooka still has the FC. It is at his house, he still can't do any car work. I think it has both of those parts still. I no longer have the 86, but I may be getting another (how do these things fall on me?). I still have plenty of parts from the 86 if you need something, let me know what and I will see if I still have it. I am picking up the car from Dale, possibly this weekend. If you have not gotten those two parts, I will take them off before I send it away. I will be removing some stuff for Dale so I can get a few more things if you need.
