Fighting Front Tag Ticket

got a 60$ front tag ticket on saturday.... what do you know, the last day of the month.

when he came to my window i said the bracket was broken (which it is) and i have it, and the tag right here in the car. i showed him both. he claimed it was a brand new tag and had never been on the car. i just responded "are you kdding me? look how dirty it is." because i knew he was going to write me the ticket anyway.

ill fight it in court because i can.

anyone have any suggestions for what angle i should take?

also on a sidenote, is there anyway to prove that the police officer is trying to met a quota system? ive read that if you can prove it, its illegal for them to have a quota to meet.

i usually get away without having one on my truck, but i dont know how they are in your city.Pretty much most of the cops around here know me and give me breaks, but oh well.Back to you...Take the bracket and the tag with you, although i dont think thats gonna help any.You didnt have one on when he pulled you over so that was that, instead of giving you a warning,he gave you a ticket,so youre not going to walk out of the courtroom with a warning, but with a fine and court cost.As far as the quota thing is concerned, youre just either a)**** off the judge b)have him stop you dead on your tracks as soon as you mention it and give you the fine C)**** off the judge and have him stop you from talking and fine you....unfortunately.

Pay it and forget it. It isn't a moving violation.

some cops around here in MD will write you the ticket for not having the tag on no matter what the excuse. even if your on the way to the dealership to get a brand new bracket. its entirely based around the cops atitude. whether or not to take it to court, prob best not to cuz its more trouble than its worth and it doesnt reflect on your record anyway.

I keep mine in the right corner of the windsheild and have never had a problem. I'm not gonna drill holes in my brand new bodylit to put a bracket on there!

Its the law, just pay it. If you tell the judge it was broken he will ask why you did not get it fixed? You know its broken because your driving around with it under your seat.

In Anne Arundel county they do have a quota, but it's not for actual tickets. One of the ways they measure the officers performance is by how many pieces of paper they issue. It doesn't matter if they're actual tickets or just written warnings.

putting the tag in your windshield is dangerous....but it on your bumper, or just forget about it all together...i took the front plate, and bracket off mine i hate the way it looks....
just pay the ticket, if you go to court the judge might wave the fine and just make you pay court cost....since its your first ticket for the front plate

Ya know WHY you need a front plate? Because it reflects the LIDAR beam. If you didn't have that, and nothing metallic on the front of the car, it takes alot longer for a LIDAR beam to get a reading on your car, so much so that it could become a huge advantage for a driver, giving you plenty of time to see the officer and slow down.

I'll take a front tag violation over a speeding violation every time. Thats why I do not run a front tag. However with a nice big frontmount now it makes it sort of pointless, but there are sprays that you can buy that will dull them out and not bounce LIDAR beams as easily.

Quotas are not illegal in Maryland like they are in California, thats probably what you read.
