i just failed my emissions test, the HC level was 1004 and Co level was 1.48, the limit for HC is 231 and 1.23 i think for Co. What do i do to pass? and what are things i need to check for? I got 30 days to retest, any help is much appreciated!
Tune the car up per FSM would be my suggestion.
What's your F/A mixture running? Leaning it out might help a bit.
Is your timing good? (I don't have clue how you adjust that on an FC.) If it's off, CO should be adjustable slightly by advancing the timing iirc.
How old is the cat?
Does CT have a repair waiver? (E.g. in MD if you spend $350 on emissions parts you get out of jail, for $350.)
You might get better results (if you haven't already) posting in the FC forums.

Sounds like it's running rich. Don't know much about your car, but when I had trouble passing emissions, it turned out to be a simple O2 sensor that needed to be replaced even though it was not throwing any codes. I also had high HC and CO readings.
just idle sniffer or do they do roller dyno? I passed earlier this week in MD by lowering the suspension such that it couldn't fit on the emissions dyno, instant 2 year waiver. I didn't even have to pay the $14.

bah emissions... find a shop that'll botch the results. but you didnt hear that from me >.>
kidding. xD
best bet, check the cats, make sure they're not worn out, then check your a/f ratio, make sure its within spec and then just bring it back, best bet tho, SAFC and lean out the system a bit.

hmmm your HC levels lead me to believe you own a rotary
not really much you can do on an FC,
check for vaccum leaks, extra air after the AFM could cause the engine to run rich because it is unmetered air, the pcm sees lean and richens it up,
exhaust leaks, depending on location they sometimes can alter emmissions readings
if your cat is actually working, clogged cats ususally do nothing but cause exhaust issues, and occasionally overheating issues....if the cat simply is doing nothing your running like a true rotary without even wanting too...a quick and cheap way to test if its good, though not that healthy is to simply go next to your exhaust with the car idleing....
if you can breath ok and feel alright with only slight nausea then they work...however, if it smells strong of burnt gas and oil, if your eyes start to water up and you quickly feel sick while standing behind your car theres a strong chance your cat has kicked the bucket
if the airpump is acutaly working, if not, and its the stock cat..then odds are the cat is dead...see above test
test your sensors to see if there functioning properly, such as TPS, AFM, MAP, CTS, BAC...specs for each sensor should be in the FSM
bad sensors makes the pcm default to rich to save the engine from detonation
if your lean your a/f you run risk of detonation, nothing better then blowing your engine by just getting your car inspected right?
as for jaison's comment on codes..the odds that that dynosaur of a pcm will actually notice anything enough to pop a code is very slim....and one wire o2's barely do anything as well since it wont get a reading till the engine is 100% warmed up
you could also check your BAC valve to see if your coming out of cold start...if your stuck in cold start you will run rich..which leads to the next thing...if the actual valve is functional then there is a possiblitiy theres a bubble in the coolant which is messing with the CTS
though i have not tested johns alcohol trick....judging by his shiny new inspection sticker i would say it works....you might want to contact him for more indepth explination....im sure doing it wrong wont be very good for your engine..
my last two ideas are kind of cheating
first..your could try that new gas there making for a week..whats it called? E85? the corn crap...i heard all you have to do is run it a bit rich and you will be good
and lastly...be bad.....ill let you figure that one out on your own

hahaha thanks man on all that info, im gonna give my car a new tune up and replace the O2 sensor, and the cat and exhaust are pretty much new, its a complete racing beat exhaust system, so yeah..im gonna get it tested again in a week and hopefully it'll pass.
I have a cat-less street ported fd and I pass emissions every 2 years by bolting on a cat and plumbing in an electric air pump... you should be able to do the same with an fc... pm me if you want more info
Im in the same boat. I want to buy an FC from out of state but all the emission stuff has been removed and it has no cats. Would that alcohol trick work you think? Or does anyone know a "friendly" garage?
