Does Acosta suck or is it just my luck?
good things come to those who wait, all shops are backed up because of parts not in ,and to many cars waiting to be worked on, marcos sr. is the only tech thats works on rotaries there so the 7 has to wait for him i don't drive my car often so i don't mind the wait, and if you sleep on it it will take a while! i told them what i want and i got after 6mos. and when i go back it take weeks at a time, but i know they good work on my car . sorry to hear about others!
Just my experience:
I use Acosta for all my FD work. About 3 months ago I was looking for shops to take my car into and everyone was overbooked they were the only ones that said we have time. Acosta (Harold) and I planned out my upgrades and I'v spent over 6+k there, no problems. I go in every other week to see the progress and the only thing I can side with is waiting for the parts to come in. I'v ordered over 15 parts and only waiting on 3 now. Mine is the Ti SIlver sitting outside.
I'v herd a lot of good stuff about Rich and Igor's work and thats the place I'd try next after my cars gets out of Acosta.

You ordered your parts through them?
Or you bought the parts and just having them install?
Id be careful with the other route dude. I always get my parts myself. And you should do the same.

I got 75% of parts through them directly and so far so good. Now I have spent about 9k with them and most of the parts have come in on time. They seem to be bz with installs for other cars so mine is just sitting and waiting its turn.
When you buy something through someone, them being the middle man, you're paying extra dollar, just because you're not doing it yourself. In this case, you can. There are parts all over the internet you can buy and any shop will gladly install it for you (technically speaking).
Say you ordered a T78 kit though them. Say they are a dealer for those kits, they can get them for basically nothing, say 1300 for the kit. Since they have to get it for you, its a value markup, which basically means they jack the price, sometimes higher than retail, if you can catch it. So since they are getting it for you, they will prob take on 100% profit when you can prob get the kit yourself online on ebay or the forums for about 1800. Get what im saying? I know everyone has to make money but in this case, parts you can get yourself, you're paying them more money just because you dont wanna get your parts yourself.
If its a part thats hard to find, its even worse. Sometimes you cant do anything about it since dealers have better chances of getting parts faster/easier than the consumer. When this happens, this is where they make their money. You can most likely always see a 100% profit on those parts.
And id def be careful on labor costs too. I remember i called in for a quote on the fuel filter install and i got one price. When the car was ready and they were finalizing the invoice, i saw that the fuel filter install was 50.00 bucks MORE and i said, "wait a minute, so and so told me this price". Then they replied, "o yeah, sometimes the computer prices it out automatically".
Which is a big crock of **** cause i am watching the entire screen as he was typing, there is no price matrix for their program, its basically whatever they wanna charge the customer at any given time, thats it.
So be careful dude. If you say you're already spent 9k, i can bet anything i own if it was done the smarter way, you could have def saved thousands.
But if this is how you wanna do it, good luck.
This problem is nothing new. Wise up and stop paying people upfront for any type of work, from car work to house work, NEVER EVER pay in full untill products or labor is done. Buy your own parts if you dont want to work on your own car, its a better chance less fuckups will happen if you get the parts yourself. Now labor is another story. Good luck...
Not trying to offend you or anyones business but why are you buying your parts through them? Dont you know how retail works?

The cost of parts is dependent, the parts I know I can get else where I go out and get them. A lot of custom things I can't get anywhere but them so no choice man.
Yes i know, they print an invoice for me too before they do any work. That way if prices change after the work is done, and its a change i allowed or thats reasonable meaning something else had to be put on, then i can compare with the original invoice.
Yes harold can be shady, he's a very persistant salesman, always looking to make that dollar. And thats good for their business but the problem with that is he does it the wrong way and to the wrong people. Im usually a regular there and i sometimes felt he was trying to stiff me. Now im trying to work on my own car, learning in the process and have suceeded. But when something major breaks, i dont think ill be going there anymore. Unless they change their old habits/staff.
On another note, hows your car coming along?

As far as my car everything is going smoothly, I'm very happy with the work they did especially with the engine and tranny. Nothing is leaking, nothing is shaking, motor map being programmed in slowly because I'm very picky about how I want it to run. I'm running into issues because of how much power I'm making but thats life you know...Whats left after acosta is rolling fenders, alignment, and inspection...and she'll be purring around for a bit. I got to drive her for a few hrs after the initial map was made and the biggest change i love is the new delrin bushings lol probly the cheapest mod i did but I feel they transformed the feedback of the car. Before the track season starts I want to go to full coilovers double adjustable...currently on KONI' singles and they are OK.
Sorry to hear that Acosta is doing you wrong. You should try to go other ways before you try the lawyer. You should try what the other member posted earlier. You can take them to court on a civil suit which you will probably win. I wouldn't go to their shop anymore if i were you since you are pending action. Contact the local court and ask them how can you go about it. But i'm sure that you will win the suit for sure. I'm glad that i never went to acosta to get my car done. I went there to get some info and see what was happening and i was not impressed and it sounded like a lot of bs to me. Wish you the best of luck and post whatever happens...
get a lawyer
38,000 dollars 731 miles and a blown engine. and they could care less. they suck. word is there collecting money from people and are going out of business. after having my car re done its amazing it did not catch fire. also with no dyno you can look foward to them "street tuning" your car. or in other words driving your car like they stole it on rt 46 and 80. i will miss harold yelling at me for more money.

Damn thats messed up. I cant believe they would do this to us. They seem like awesome people when in person.
i took my car there back in 2006 after bullish racing closed...I went because of Marcos Sr and Jr...trusted them...they got my car up and running and was happy with their work....
its a shame about the shaddyness that went down, and I heard they closed up shop last week and got evicted from their lease? and Harold left? I dont know all the details, havent been there or talked to them for about a year.
oh well...

mine was the red one with the scoot hood and drift kit. Two years ago my engine blew. i decided to remove it myself and drop a motor i bought from steve at gotham in but i had to move to fl do to work and i never finished. My brother took the car to them so they sould install the motor and tune it. the motor went in quick but they werent able to get it running. they blamed it on the power fc cuz they really dont know how to tune them. So my brother bought a microtech from them so they could tune it. well long story short they kept bssing us for awhile and after they said they installed the microtech it was never installed they dont have it and they wont be able to give us the refund.
