DEAL'S GAP Sept. Gathering- Only 1 month away!!!
318 curves in 11 miles....!
Hey everyone! Surely you remember my ecstatic ravings about the Deal’s Gap event down in Tenn./N. Carolina this past April, where 50 of us RX-7 owners ran Tail of the Dragon…. Well, we are heading back in one month for a second, informal gathering! Those of us that attended April’s event just couldn’t wait a whole year to go back, so…
We are gathering again at Deal’s Gap September 9-11. The RX8 guys are having their annual meet there from the 7th through the 11th and have agreed to let us join them on the 10th.
Last April, I was the only NE owner to attend, and WOW- did the rest of you guys ever miss out! It’s about an 11-hour ride each way, but it’s scenic for the most part, and MORE THAN WORTH IT! I mean, if I’m a girl and I can do it without complaining, then c’mon guys- you can do it too!
We will be meeting up at Fontana Village (our resort/hotel) on the evening of Friday the 9th to eat, hang out, and get psyched up for driving the next day. (NOTE: If you caravan down with me, you can get a sneak preview of the Dragon, since I actually drive it on the way to arriving at Fontana.) On Saturday the 10th, we’ll meet up with the RX8 owners, hang out, and then ride the Tail of the Dragon till dinnertime. We’ll probably have another of our bonfires Saturday night down by Fontana Dam. The on Sunday, we’ll drive out to Phil’s Restaurant for lunch and then drive the Cherohala Skyway before heading home.

Come on down and help me represent the NE! It really is a driving experience like no other. It’s like a rotary-powered rollercoaster, but over 11 miles long! Of course, anyone wanting to attend can caravan down and back with me. See if any of you can keep up with me and my black FD on the Dragon!!!!! Hehehehe!
If anyone has any questions, feel free to PM me, as I am the official Deal’s Gap ambassador to the NE!

I might make the trek. My brother just moved to TN and has suggested I come down to run the Tail of the Dragon with him. Do you know how 'exclusive' the meet is to rotary cars? My brother drives a nice MR2 turbo and would have no problems "keeping up"...

Well, the "keeping up" thing really isn't an issue, lol. May through October is the busy season there, and it is sure to be very crowded on the Dragon during the weekend. You can't go that fast anyways because it is so unbelievably tight.
Any drivers with any cars are welcome to come- this is not an "exclusive" event. As mentioned, it's an informal gathering b/c we didn't want to wait till next April's official event to go back. The RX8 Club is having their exclusive event the same weekend, and so far about 20 of us RX-7 owners are going down. There are sure to be many types of performance cars and bikes there that weekend.
If you're interested in going, it's an unbelievably fun time, and the people attending are really down-to-earth, fun people that are just really into their 7's and driving them!!!
That's what's so cool about this event- it's not a show-n-shine, brag-about-what-you've-got thing, but rather a celebration of our unique cars and their amazing handling capabilities on America's best driving road.

Thank you, i've still yet to see either of your beauties. I realized today I won't be able to make it down to the gap. HIN is in AC that weekend and I already made arrangements to go with the team. I guess I will have to come in April and just look at killboy.com for now.

Was going to go to miami that weekend since the 10th is my birthday but I was pissed I missed the April event so I might have to shoot for this one. Gotta get my motor and get it in the car first though. Everything should go as planned but I'll have to see. For now though, count me in.

Hey guys,
I am one of the planners of this years event for the RX8-Club. I heard you guys were making the treak over to the Dragon, so I wanted to make an offer.
We are having a cook out on Friday afternoon September 9, Check the Itinerary Here and we would be glad to have you guys join us. I know a lot of you may not be making it until Saturday and I am sure we will be meeting up then too but I wanted to let you know about the cookout. Before during and after will be our show and shine (Very Infromal) car show and then we plan to do a Fontana Dam Run or maybe a skyway run before our offical running of the Dragon on Sat. I need to know how many people plan on making it so we can plan the food accordingly, and don't worry the meal is on us. Send me and email or PM me if you plan on making it.
Thanks guys and feel free to email me or PM me if you have any questions.

Unfortunate news.....
My black FD has blown a coolant seal, and cannot attend the Deals Gap event with me. Very, very sad.
My MB FD needs a new actuator, and is not running 100%, and needs new tires (I am driving on the 9-yr. old OEM tires still), so it will not be able to make it either. So, I very regrettably will not be going down to the Dragon this weekend. I am hoping to go sometime this November once the crowds clear out, and will keep you all posted on that!
To those who are planning on driving down, I highly recommend that you still go, and just PM me if you'd like directions down from this general area, and/or if you have any questions!
