I like the numbers

I know the dyno sheet says its a 2nd gen but what type of engine is in it?
Is this a S4/5 13B FI setup or is it a 12A Setup with a 12a clutch? Just curious.

Not that he needed it, but GtoRx7 has been clearly vindicated and backed up by hard data. Hopefully, the naysayers will simply accept the reality and take it like good sports, but remember to never repeat the Urban Myth that the stock fan clutch setup is just as efficient as an Efan setup...with that big of a jump in rwhp, the Efan is MUCH more efficient with energy usage, handsdown, the clear winner.

Great work, I tip my hat to the Defined Autoworks guys and gals for stepping in and resolving this debate to the side of the facts and not the opinions...

Just for my own curiosity what were each of the fans doing during the dyno runs? Were both fans fully engaged and running? Or was the mechanical fan "freewheeling" and the e-fan set to "off"? Either way, the e-fan swap is a definite improvement. However, the latter would be preferable as the 11 hp would be on tap at all times, just by eliminating the parasitic drag of the fan. If the 11 hp was gained with both fans running that is also great, but the gains might be a little smaller when the fans are both set to off...

Just wondering. Thanks!
Jamie

Its a stock n/a engine 6-port sleeves pulled, k+n air filter, racing beat header going to a 3" exhaust (note the loss of torque). All the runs were done with our large fan blowing up front, so the mechanical and electric fans were off.

I was hoping you'd say that. That sweetens the deal even more IMO.

I think the next one we have to do dyno testing on is electric waterpump vs mechanical one. That is one i'm really curious about, and think would result in even higher gains maybe.

Ray mentioned before about the Efan failing and being stranded and that has actually happened to me but because I used a fuse holder on hand instead of the Derale piece which I had lost by the time I installed the fan on the '80 RX-7...I've got a real bad habit of buying parts I know I'll use eventually on my cars and I can't help opening the boxes......anyhooos, on the drive home from work going down Loop 12 to Spur 408 and then to Interstate 20, I run into rush hour traffic. On one of those slow downs that came to a stop, I noticed the needle keep climbing past the halfway point on the temp gauge...once we got rolling, it started to go down, but then there was another jam, came to a stop and then saw that needle rise again. This time I pulled over, left the engine running and popped the hood...the radiator cap wasn't steaming yet but I saw the fan wasn't on at all. I went to check the fuse and that POS had melted all around the glass fuse inside which was still good! I killed the car and when I tried to grasp the ends of the barrel, the whole thing fell apart and that was it. I was on I-20, 15 min from home, so I decided to make the run and basically broke every law about solid white stripes and shoulders to get there without stopping. I still ended up being forced to come to a complete stop since I wasn't ready to run a standing red light and only Mobil1 saved that damn engine from seizing since the temp marker hit the top dash a couple of times on the way home. Once I did get home, I ran the hose through the radiator to get it to cool to a point I felt would be good enough to shut it down. I switched over to blade fuses for that fan at that point and then the whole car met its demise in May 2003.

Point? Even given that experience, I still put a new Derale electric fan in the 83 rex....but even I would still be hesitant to go to an electric water pump for a daily street driver. True, Jim Hand and crew did it for his street/strip terror but even over at PY or Pontiac Zone, we still don't have anyone who's actually run a Meziere electric water pump on a daily basis on the street for more than a year. It's one thing if the fan stops working, you can still limp home and not damage anything. If a water pump stops working, you are severely hosed.

Meizere makes some of the best electric pump in my opinion (55gph remote mount), and they have a very nice machined adapter for us rotary guys

found an adapter here :

http://www.theracingstore.com/index....mart&Itemid=26

Also was browsing through Meziere's website to pull off some specs, and I noted that most of their pumps fall in either 2500 or 3000 hour life. Which would definaltly make it not suitable for everyday driving. But Maybe for taking the car on the track to have that little extra power on tap.

That makes the 5-pages of arguing pretty gay.

We'll, looks like that my stock fan may get ditched here soon, thanks GTO!

I still think that we should do a run with an electric water pump for "scientific" viewing .... It would be nice to lay 3 graph ontop of each other,

Stock
Electric Fan
Electric Fan & water pump

Speaking of getting the most HP when you go for 220, I recently read that Mazda Race teams use PREMIUM (Mobil 1, Royal Purple) Full Synthetic oil with no bad effects and a 1~2 HP increase.
