Negative Pressure Oil Pans

It is an area of strong interest in piston driven engines. I am trying to figure out if it is of value in rotaries as the negative crankshaft pressure helps the rings to seal, however I don't know how a negative pressure eccentric shaft case would help anything seal on a rotary.

Just pondering.....

Peterson Fluid Systems : Engine Breather

Seems cheap enough for an advantage.

I put the sump under intake vacuum for a while on my TII as I had a problem with excessive oil pressures at idle and leaking turbo exhaust seals causing smoking.

It worked, but I wasn't able to keep from sucking oil into the intake cornering- so I abandoned it and went about lowering oil pressure at idle on my next build.

A proper air/oil separator might have worked instead of what I made or better putting a vacuum tap in the exhaust downpipe.

As for helping anything seal on a NA rotary... I don't believe so. Just the oil control rings see sump pressure.

Thats what I could think of, but wasn't absolutely sure. Oh well, I will try them on my other car. It sure could use the concept as it revs to 9,000 rpm so there must be a lot of crankcase pumping going on.

It also helps de-aerate the oil.
