Just browsing around while eating my lunch at my desk and came across this thread. (I'm not in this particular forum much.) Haven't been getting much work done this week while I'm waiting for my engine to arrive.
Figured I should chime in and answer a few of the questions that were asked:
Engine is built for a road-racing car.
Exhaust has been ported as well, but Joe would have to comment on those since I haven't actually seen them in person.
Colour scheme on the engine matches the colour scheme of the car. (It looks odd on it's own, but should look nice in the car.)
Chokes in the carb were recommended and built by Nick at Rotary Racing and Reliability in an effort to make my old engine work. Carb chokes/jets etc in it are set up for my old motor at my location (cool air, close to sea level.) I just un-bolted the carb from the engine and shipped it to Joe so he could fire the engine up. Didn't change anything, the airs (at least) are way off. Had no intention of doing any dyno stuff so didn't send along any of my other jets/chokes etc.
Given the carb jetting + his heavy Turbo II drivetrain and wheels + green motor with no time on it, I think we are off to a good start.
They are located 1800km from me, so wasn't able to easily send them different parts for the carb.
Not sure if the RX8 rotors will make much more power or not (hopefully they don't lose any) but we wanted to do something new and different, plus, the RX8 rotors seems to be cheaper and more plentiful than good S5 NA rotors. You don't know if you don't try I suppose.
Now that I know this thread is here, I'll follow this one too. Also, any other thoughts on jetting, I'd love to hear it! Really. I'm baffled. Seriously.
Can hardly wait to hear the engine in person, and get it running through my exhaust so I don't go deaf.
Also: A little plug for Joe. He spent a huge amount of time figuring out how to make this work, and was a real pleasure to do business with. Highly recommended.

It is now installed and running in its new home.
Needs some tuning and adjustments, but it's alive!!

Not a lot of updates yet, I'm afraid. We only got rid of the last of our snow a few weeks ago.
Car should be getting some track-time in about 3 weeks, which will let us get everything nicely broken in, and then do some baseline tuning.
Then I hope to get it onto the dyno, fully broken in around early June.

First part of April was great, and then we got this random snowfall out of nowhere week before last. Weird. All gone now.
Having the track-opening "work party" this weekend. (It's a club owned track, so if we don't do it, nobody does.)
There is a test-day on May 19th which I think will be the first time I can sneak it out on to the track. (I'm out of the country the next 2 weeks.) Hope to get it broken in enough to race on the weekend of the 24th-25th.
The car sounds happier and happier every time we run it. You can feel it loosening up. Plus, it will probably be happier when the last of the C12 that's still in the system burns out.
Here it is coming out of the car show last week (it's behind the monster Subaru you see at the start of the clip) just so you can see that it does move under it's own power.
This was during the "rollout" at the end of the show. Over 300 cars leaving the building through a bunch of exits. It's chaos.
And a little pic from inside the show. Engine bay is coming together. (BTW, gave out about half of those cards, including to one guy with an RX2 who doesn't speak English.)

My engine is similar to yours and i was on a SuperFlow engine dyno yesterday to get it sorted out. Unfortanatelly the rear RX-8 rotor lost some compression due to 3 side seals were stucked in their grooves. Problem lies in the intermediate housing, were the bridge was a little bit narrower than the others, bad luck! I have to go to the S5 9:7 cr rotors and have them beweled just like the RX-8 rotors and then balance the entire package in my Turner balance machine. I choose to use the FB side plates becausse porting is good and they were machined and hardened. Hope to be back on the dyno in about a month.
