Full Bridge Port Crazyness!

I just finished up a very serious race engine for a customer and a forum member (Redshift) from Halifax today.

As far as I know there is no other engine like this one, which means I spent ALOT of time trying different things and designing the ports. I also wrecked a set of S5 T2 irons in the process trying my port design lol. Oh well!!

Heres a list of parts that went into the engine build:

S5 Turbo 4 port irons - Custom Full Bridge Port
S5 Turbo Housings - Water Jacket mod
RX8 Rotors - EDM wire cut apex seal grooves to accept pre-Renesis apex seals
RX8 Eccentric Shaft - new
RX8 Stationary Gears - new
RB Race 2mm Carbon Apex Seals + Springs
RB Race Rotor Bearings
RB Thermal Oil Pellet for Eccentric Shaft
Atkins Oil jets for Eccentric Shaft
Pineapple Racing Aluminum Oil Pan
Turbo Oil Pump
RB Adjustable Oil Pressure Regulator
RB Oil Pressure/Temp Sender Adapter
RB Stainless Steel Oil Cooler Lines
Pineapple Racing OMP and Air pump Block off plates
Lightened Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel, Auto Counterweight and Race clutch
12A ignition
51IDA Weber Downdraft Carb w/ RB Intake Manifold

The porting took a very long time and alot of measuring to get right because we used RX-8 rotors the side seals are in a different location than the older rotors so the bridge port had to open really early to keep the sideseals from dropping into the intake port.
Like I said before I wrecked a set of S5 T2 irons trying something a little different and ended up porting right through the iron into the water jacket. But hey...I learned something

I'm getting the engine setup on an engine dyno over the weekend and should have some video of this thing BRAP BRAP BRAPing next week.

Hahaha...no actually this one is going on the engine dyno this weekend, we have to make some adapters for the Rotary, but this will see some numbers for sure

Didn't notice the subtle bevel on the rotors until the second time I looked at the pics :-)

I'm waiting for the Dyno numbers as well.

That's pretty sweet, though I remember someone doing this with rx8 rotors and not seeing any hp difference for some reason
Hope it works out though.

Nice build, but why did you paint all the gasket mating surfaces on the block? A little time and some painters tape could have prevented having to clean the paint off. Also you might want to clean the paint from inside where the front cover will be.

The paint won't hurt a thing if it isn't cleaned off of the gasket surface.

It also won't hurt anything inside the engine. Used to be really popular to paint the insides of engines as it was supposed to help oil flow more readily into the pan.

the only crucial place to take the paint out is inbetween the irons and the housings ...

Yeah I like to make work for myself, I should have taped off the surfaces, but just sprayed the paint and afterwards just razor bladed the paint off.

Well this weekend was a write-off.... I talked to the guys with the engine dyno and its going to be a bitch to make some adapter plates and mounts to put a rotary on it, so I'm going to stick this into our widebody FC tomorrow morning and get it running.
Then take it to a chassis dyno place here in Kitchener.

I want to have it shipped out to David by the end of the week, so I'll have something up by then

nice work...but why didn't you dowel pin the motor while you had it all apart? would elp with the higher compression of the rx8 rotors and make a stronger block. just wondering!

Cool ... I'm really interested in this one. Will you be tunning it for him also for max power or will he not be using that same intake and exhaust?

You don't need to dowel a N/A motor.

I didn't think an engine that will see a max of 9500rpm would need any doweling. It has the beefy Pineapple oil pan which helps keep everything in line better than the stock flimsy one.

I also got it running today in our FC widebody, WOW it sounds so good!

I've got it booked in for dyno time on Friday, so we'll see what this thing can do!
