down draft or side draft?
down draft or side draft?
I have 2 intakes for a very heavily bridgeported 13b motor. Ones a side draft intake and the other is an intake for a down draft. I have 2 carbs I have been thinking about getting. the first carb is a 51ida down draft the other is a 55 side draft carb. Which carb should I get? Any advice will be appreciated
The 55 sidedraft will flow more and ultimately make more power if set up properly. The 51 IDA is also a good setup. You can't go wrong with either although the IDA is a little easier to tune and change chokes etc.
Depending on the manifold, the sidedraft manifold may have better flow.
The flat "Lake Cities" manifold is best although for your situation it will require a lot of porting. The IDA manifold is next best.

I remember my friends 13B bridgeport RX3 back in Melbourne around 5-6 years ago that switched from a 51 IDA to a 50 DCO side with a wrap around manifold ,well after it was tuned at Selectmaz it was a way better car to drive on the street (tamed) smoother and had more torque form idle to to redline ( Izzy at Selectmaz said the manifold contributed for this as well) than with the IDA better on the Highway as well, I found out that he later switched to a 55 DCO and made a lot more power up high than with the previous carb set ups.
I hope this helps

I decided
I am going with the 55 dco sp side draft. They have them brand new on the weber website for 499. I just got and 1969 r100 and I have no Idea if the down draft will fit. The car is so tiny Plus If I can sneak some torque in and lower rpm thats a plus too. I will driivng it slow until I learn to drive on the right hand side lol
Yeah the longer intake runners of the wrap around side draft intakes
will give you better torque down low so drivability might be a bit better
especially for a big BP like yours.

Jeezes this heres a couple pics of 55 dco carb I got from weber north america.
Nice large inner diameter. I can almost cram in a can of pop or soda
(depending were you live). I will be proting the hell out of the intake before I
mount it then start tuning it. Thanx for the advice
