Yeah... I am dumb and can't read dates correctly.

I am in great falls, mt. I guess if I am serious about selling it I should create a thread with pictures and all the details about the car. I will try to take some pictures and do that tomorrow.

Unhappy overheating issues

No I haven't really done anything with it in the past few days, i just picked up another 87 turbo saturday and now i'm having some over heating issues with it. I will explain best i can.

So my coolant keeps getting put into my overflow resivoir so i replaced my thermostat and some coolant lines and for some reason my add coolant light is almost always on and it overheats extremely fast. I also swapped my radiator from my other one cause the one that came with it was pretty messed up hoping that would fix my problem and it did for ~45 min then it came back on again. Any ideas? i also swapped my coolant level sensor and the sensor ontop of the thermostat housing.

I've almost run out of options that i can think of why it would overheat like it does so fast. Would a bad water pump cause all the back pressure to make my coolant fill my overflow resivoir? I have had to empty it out atleast 5-6 times a day in the past 2 days.

The motor and turbo are jdm and have ~40-55k miles on it so nothing should be bad and it runs very good minus the overheating. It has no emissions on it anymore either if any of that for some reason could do it.

Any ideas guys? Changing my water pump is the only thing i have left to do as far as the cooling system goes.

Thanks

I am not that familiar yet with rotory motors but typicaly with symptoms like that it's because your coolent system is being over pressurized from a break in a gasket between the combustion chamber and a coolent passage. On a normal motor this would be the head gasket.

would that cause you to burn it as well? mine was having problems similar to that but i wasnt overheating but i was running low really often so i replaced a few lines and got at new thermostat and that seemed to fix my leaking but im almost 100% sure that im still burning it. but even i after i fixed the leaking the buzzer still was goin off so i just grounded it.

I had this problem when my car was N/A you should try replacing all hoses to and from the coolant resevoir a leak will make it not pull from the overflow. I also changed the waterpump as it was bad for quite a while. There is a weephole at the bottom of the waterpump if you can feel coolant there your waterpump is shot. Mine I could barely feel coolant. If you are eating coolant that means because of overheating and or age you lost a chunk of coolant seal in your motor. As for the low coolant buzzer going off it could be as simple as your lines to your resevoir are leaking too it will not pull extra coolant back to the system. Mine did this for a while then after changing the lines and burping the system 8 different times it stopped. Then one day on the way to Wolf Creek it came back and never left again I was eating so much coolant in the motor. I would be very suspicious of the waterpump still though.

There is a a thin line of gasket that seals the coolant in the passages. If those go it lets coolant into the combustion chamber. That will not cause the cooling system to over pressurize it would not have adequate pressure. Leaks in the lines going to from the coolant reservoir alone will cause it not to pull the coolant back.

Also I want pics of this car you are selling?

ok so ill check the water pump and see if it has coolant all over it? can i get a new one from mazdatrix if mine is bad right? as far as the coolant gettin in the combustion chamber is that gonna do much damage? i m guessing it would be kinda tough to replace the gasket. damn my engine is old lol. btw we met i think that day i was with matt. we came to your shop and looked at your car. i really wish i had another car so i could rip mine apart and rebuild it. i have alot to learn though. is there a way we can get together again some time?

Hi I'll throw my 2 cents in on the cooling problem:
If coolent is getting in the combustion chamber it will usually blow white smoke. It my be that your system has an air lock, this is what I would try:

With engine cool remove radiator cap and fill
Start engine w/o cap on, level should drop a little add more
As engine warms your should see the coolent start to move when the thermostat opens, it may try to push coolent out of the radiator then just rev up engine a little and hold at higher rpm.
While at the higher rpm the coolent level should drop again, add more
If you have an air lock it should burp during the higher rpm thermostat open time (no more than a couple of minutes)
Top off the radiator, keeping it reved up and put the cap back on.

This MAY fix the problem or tell you if the thermostat or water pump is defective.
Oh and have someone in the car to check the temp gauge ,shut down if it gets hot. Like I said this might work, something to try.

The clock is ticking!!! We hope to have the RX7 ready for it's maden voyage around the cones at the fairgrounds this Sunday. If its running look for the black car with the rookie drivers running over the cones!!!

It won't have coolant all over it. There is a hole on top and bottom. If there is any coolant present there it is a good chance its bad. Mazdatrix does sell new waterpumps and gaskets. If I do not leave town this weekend I think we could most likely meet up and check it out. As far as the coolant in the combustion chamber goes it may cause some flaking but I am going to say that I doubt your housings are good anymore at this point anyway. But then again I don't use anything even questionable.

ok ill check the holes. but yeah ill be around this weekend. haha yeah i noticed. your set up is really nice. its better go with all new that way you know it works. ill send you my cell number through PM. just text me or give me a call. like i said i have a **** ton to learn still. should i just get the whole thing like the water pump housing and the pump all together from the s5 like you have? seems like it would be better to just replace it all.

oh and i forgot about this. just a couple days ago my gauges stopped coming on when i turn the first click on my lights switch(i have the same gauges from corksport you do). so i thought at first that it was just the gauges but then i realized that the parking lights and tail lights dont come on with the first click like they should. and on the second click only the head lights are working. no tails or anything else. is the switch bad? i have a test light and i was gonna test it to see if that what it was. but any help please

Do you not have the brightness adjuster for those gauges? That may have caused it. Mine came with a **** to turn from Green to Blue and turn the brightness up and down.

Wich connector is it?
