CO e-testing outcome?

does anyone know what the deal with colorado emissions testing is? i've heard a bit about a vote as to whether or not to retain the current standards and methods of inspection, and i also think that they were supposed to have voted on it already, but i don't know anything other than that...

There's nothing about a vote listed in the news section of the Department of Public Health and Environment.

I believe it is being set into effect, but the thing was that they were setting up mobile emissions testing equipment on onramps of highways and streets around the state. If you were to drive by and pass the test, you would not have to go in and test at a station. Now if you were to drive by and fail, when your 2 years were up, you got a notice saying that you would have to go to a station and run on the dyno.

I've heard mixed rumors that this is in effect and that it's not. I'm going to say no since I've had to emission a few of our car these past few months. But who knows, maybe it's going to be a reality soon.

As for the standards, if anything, they are going to get even more strict, like Cali.

I was under the understanding that as of 2007 colorado would not be requireing emissions testing any longer.

this was more along the lines of what i was hearing. they guy i was talking to said that they were considering doing away with it due to the fact that (apparently) there's a very high percentage of emissions-exempt cars on the roads, and not enough non-exempt cars failing the test to justify continuing the program.

maybe it was just rumor, but really hope not.

IT's not getting rid of emissions entirely, by them putting into place what I described above, a lot of people think of that as getting rid of emissions because most people wouldn't have to go get it. They would just pass it on an on ramp and never have to take it to a station. But for us people with modded or older rotaries, we have to worry about them. Only if you pass one of these sniffers on the side of the road will you get a summons to take your vehicle to an actual station to retest.

So for a majority of the public that just have their cars for transportation and keep up on them fairly well, there really won't be emissions for them to worry about.

hmm, how long until they're in effect, do you know?

thats does make sense i think...they should get rid of it!!!

but nah...so i wonder if they did these sniffer things how many would there be? i mean may it be possible to avoid them haha...wouldnt it cost a lot to put that stuff up everywhere??
i mean ive heard of these things from cali people but i havnt seen the machine or whatever or really know what exactly they do.

well from what i see it looks like they wont even be near anywhere i drive o_O...
and it says you have to pass 2 vans to not have to go in for a test. and the vans are more strict. oh and u still have to pay like u would anyway blah blah o well...

so im wondering about ways one may use these to their advantage.
it says the will be set up in places where moderate acceleration is used to get the sample. so what about coasting by them? maybe even go as extreme to shut off the car and float by? hahahaha
or, since its measuring out the tailpipe, maybe have your exhaust comin out the header and go past a couple and be done for the year!! haha i dont know. doesnt look like it will change much to me

From what I've heard they are supposed to be in the higher traffic area's. I always see one getting on C-470 north from Hampden going west, and A friend of mine that drives spear everyday says that there seems to be a perminant one on spear near downtown as well. I think they are going to be mainly on the highway onramps, and I've heard that if you shut of your car a ways before the sniffer and just coast by, you will pass easily. But you would have to know it's there and have some decent space to coast by and not hold up traffic.

My dad looked into the testing stations not too long ago. Right now, if you pass the roadside test then you do not have to go in and get your car tested next time around. If you fail, nothing happens- except you are not exempt from your next scheduled test.

What i've been hearing is they're doing away with the tests all together; which entails getting rid of the roadside testers as well. I have no way to confirm this, however.

My understanding is that they are getting rid of the tests in 3 counties, Weld, Larimer, and El paso... everyone else stays the same.

If you live in denver, leave E-Controls on, nothing is changing there from everything I've read, it's only north and south of denver that we are getting free from the tyrany of Emmisions.

for now I'd keep it all on unless you live in Weld, larimer or el paso.

I just recieved a postcard in the mail from CDot, from what I get from the postcard and everything else that I just read last month at the emmisions place. If you drive by one of the little mobile onramp truck deallies 2 time the month before your plates expire, and pass. You will recieve your renewell card stating that you don't need to get a test. It doesn't state county's, cities, etc...just CO emmisions in general? JM2C

I am in larimer co. in Fort collins, I just got a renewal card stating I need emissions testing before the end of feb. so I don't think anything has changed. I wish it had. I will pass no problem though, I am still on a stock cat.

lol.. I got around emissions by registering my car at a friends address in idaho springs... but I've seen those mobile emissions vans on the on and off ramp on I-70 and kipling.. only once though.... and if they put them on the on ramps... you'll have to haul *** on the onramp then shut off your car right when you get near one... if you can't haul *** you won't be able to coast up hill past it... should rig up some way to spray tons of extra o2 into your exhaust systm when you see one... or have some direct inject alcohol with a push of a button to get passed the vans
