Question Question about removing Cats on 87' Rx-7 non-turbo

I own a 87' Rx-7 non-turbo. I also live in a province that require emissions testing. I can get a hot E-Test from someone, but i was wondering about removing the to smaller cats up by the exhaust header and making a pipe that replaces the two cats? Will removing the two small cats and making a straight pipe to fit in place of the cats work for it or will it harm my engine? Or is there a part thats made to do what i'm trying to do out there? if so a links would be great. Also if i get the hot E-Test should i just go with a straight pipe to a silencer then to my muffler?
I'm new to all this so all the help you can give me would be very helpful

It's not going to harm the engine, but i don't think you'll get much of a performance boost either. You're best bet is to replace the entire setup with a bonez high flow cat from www.rx7.com.

I second this. Your car should have no problem with passing the sniffer with this either, assuming everything else is still hooked up correctly.

Contrare, you guys must have never tried gutting the first two with the OEM setup still installed. You will get a nice seat-of-the-pants boost by doing this, damn near the same as if you pulled the all of the OEM cats & installed the Bonez superflow...

yeah... ive had both the bonez superflo and the bonez race pipe from rx7.com; if you get the race pipe you will need to start thinking of some form of secondary air injection method, but the superflo i think had enough backpressure to oven the aux ports if i remember. Oh and the race pipe sounds a little ricey'r

I replaced the two secondary cats with a downpipe from Racingbeat.com.. I had a muffler shop mate that to a high flow cat.. Parts and install were less than the Bonez system.. Not to mention it sounds awsome.. Just another idea to think about.. Good Luck with your choice,

Jimmy

is the stock cat alone enough to open the aux ports if you dont have the pre cats and a free flowing cat back?
