I'm in Gardner.

I have an 87 Turbo and an 88 GXL (daily drivers). I also have a 1st gen race car. My race car was pulled in the Maple Leaf parade a few years ago. The local police allowed me to drive it back around 56hwy to my friend's race shop on 3rd St (as long as I promised to stay under the speed limit). At 55 mph, my race car is still in 1st gear.

Wow. My ex-wife' sister lives in Gardner, actually outside the city but still....I used to prowl around your fair little city regularly.

Don't I know you? What's your name? Is your friends name Dale?

Yes, Dale and I both raced my RX-7 in 2003. He kept the car at his shop, maintained it, and transported it to and from the track. In exchange, he got to race the car in the MidAm Championship, which is the SCCA's local Regional racing series. I ran it in the National series.

Dale is a heck of a mechanic, and a very good friend. I'm usually hanging out with him and his Z-car buddies during the Maple Leaf Festival.

My name is Chuck.

I thought you might be Chuck. Didn't you used to have a different user name on this forum? Maybe that was the KC Forum. I talked to you the year you were in the parade and you showed me your race car at Dale's garage. Your wife drove the 2nd gen 7 as I recall. Are you going to be at MapleLeaf or the bbq/picnic?

That's me. I hadn't been on for a long time, so I couldn't remember my user name or password. I thought it was easier to just make a new one.

I will be there as long as I don't have some other conflict. I'm not sure what day the KC Region SCCA has scheduled it's annual picnic, which is in Gardner.

For the Maple Leaf, my wife and I usually have breakfast with the Smith's, then watch the parade from the corner of 3rd, followed by too much beer. It's just kind of become a tradition for us.

I work at Hey Machinery down by the elevator and drove the silver and red 3rd gen's to work sometimes. I sold the red one to Eric Blaine of Lawrence who had it at the bbq earlier this year. My silver 7 was "dissasembled" at that time and Eric had borrowed my PFC so I came with him. I'm hoping I'll make the bbq with my silver 7 this year. I may not be there very long with MapleLeaf and some family in town though. Looks like 3 7 guys at the MapleLeaf parade. Hmmm.

We are second cousins. We all work at Hey Machinery too. You spelled Bryan's name correctly so you must know him fairly well? It seems kind of odd to like Demo Derby and own a FD. How does that fit? Where do you hide your FD in Lawrence? What model, color and mods does it have? Are you Brian, Kyle, Luke or Jeff?

I am Brian. And yeah, maybe an odd breed to like crashing cars and an FD. lol. Guess I'm just a city boy raised part time at my families junkyard(R.A Guenther and Sons junkyard) I have owned my Montego blue FD since 95/96 and live over by LHS. It went through those 2 major storms(microburst and hail storm) this year and got some big time hail damage, so it is getting a whole new paint job right now. Supposed to have it back a week ago.....you know how those things go. My dad went to school with John I believe. The 55 Chevy he has used to be his.....if only I could talk him into selling it back to us some day. Actually, I have never seen it.....Just want a 55 Chevy and thought it would be cool to have my dads old car to fix up. My FD is stock right now. I have some mods (downpipe, alum radiator, Unothodox pulley set, K&N etc) that have been sitting a while, but don't know if I'm going to put them on the car or not. Seems the FDs are worth so much more like they rolled off the show room floor anyways and I don't drive it very often at all to do too much to it. Maybe I'll see you around after I get it back. But also, you said you have a silver 93? Did you have it repainted? I thought Mazda produced the yellow FD in 93 then dropped that and produced the silver in 94 & 95? You don't see many of those around.

Is your MB FD sitting at a shop off of 23rd street on the east side of town? I flip out everytime I see one in town, which is about never.

Man, that was a good day coming home from school. Saw a red first gen at the parking lot at JCCC, saw a second gen and an RX-8 on K10 and the MB FD at the shop on 23rd.

Another MB FD in Lawrence and you owned it since the mid 90's? Eric (Pr0k) and I didn't think there was more than 2 or 3 FD's in all of Lawrence when I sold him his '93 red touring FD.

I talked to Bryan on Friday and asked him about CWC and Demo Derby. He thought you would be the only one of the guys who would own an RX-7 but was surprised you had one.

Small world but fat chance you'll ever get the car back from John. He'll have it until the day he dies but you might be able to get it from Bryan when that happens.

You should put those mods on since you already have them. They are easy to take back off and if anything add to the resale value a slight amount being "tastefull" mods. The first cat and the original AST should go for safety and reliability reasons.

The silver FD's were made in '93. It's the R1/R2 models you're thinking of. The '93 R1's were red, black or yellow but there is '94 and/or '95 silver R2's. My '93 silver FD is a base model but it does have the R1 lip. I hope at some point to add the extra oil cooler but not the rear spoiler. I have a set of of R1 shocks which I may put on the front only but I haven't decided yet. I'm not exactly stock and like to play with things, sometimes too much.

There is a BBQ out at the Clinton Lake Damm in October. You should come out.

Yeah that was probably it out on 23rd. They said it was done but they were waiting on 1 peice of trim from Mazda. I havent even seen it yet so I hope it looks good.

I didn't figure John would ever sell that 55. I asked him about it a couple times but he didn't say a whole lot about it.

I know I have seen 9 or 10 different FDs in Lawrence in the past 10 years or so. Who knows how many of them are still around though.

A '79 in the driveway and a '83 in the garage in south Olathe. I know of several others in the area.
