OK, the trucks came with a 4.8L, a 5.3L and a 6.0L. All of the engines are iron blocks with aluminum heads and composite intakes. Some 5.3L engines were offered with aluminum blocks but they are somewhat rare. The LS1 that came in the 97-04 Vettes, 98-02 F-Bodys and 04 GTOs are aluminum block and head engines. The LS2 is a 6.2L and is avalible in the 05-07 Vette and 05-06 GTO. It too is all aluminum.
It is best to get everything as a package, i.e: motor, trans, wiring, ecm, etc.
$3000 for a package is the going rate right now and is a decent deal. I would recommend staying away from the 97-99 motors as they had some wiring and oiling issues. Idealy you should look for a 2001 or 2002 motor for the better heads, intake and ECM or and LS2 for the GTO or Vette.
The GTO and Vette oil pan will not fit our chassis so you will need to find an F-Body pan. If you choose to use the truck motor you will have to use the car intake because of hood clearance issues.
If you want to use the truck motor you will defintly save some cash. It is a little bit more work to track down all the parts but worth it because you use the money you will save and buy performance parts. If you want more info on any install related questions please refer to www.v8rx7forum.com
There is an awful lot of people there that can help you out or you can email me at admin@qcaaf.com, my name is Jesse.

any of you guys feel good about doing a Kaaz LSD install on my FD? I dont really know anyone here who is good with rear ends and so fourth?? i figured if im going to put a modded ls1 in my car i might as well buy a Kaaz so i dont shell my rear end at the stip launchin with slicks! better safe than sorry.. but anyone know how to do this correctly?
i wouldnt worry about the rear end i have never heard of anyone blowing one out or anything and ive seen some pretty built *** rx7's look at the guys running 20b's they dont change there rears out
if you do decide to waste money on that snider's out towards 280 is a pretty decent shop i took a car there and a few buddy's did also they do really good work
do you know if your going to iraq or not i might be able to do alittle work saturday

a new lsd is always a good idea if you got the money! i have read storys of rx7s breaking the housing when getting to much traction. (like at the drag strip) most all of the professional builds use after market lsd for the better tourqe lock and duribilty. i agree with sniders too.
yeah im going to iraw but not till super early monday morn.. So saturday is cool if ya wanna work a bit.. Id like to get that rear end hub put on and such.
and steve i think im going to buy a LSD just to be safe.. i wont install it till the car is running and so fourth and then i can just drive it out there and say here install this please and be done with it. then i can lauch harder and have peace of mind.. cause im really thinking about running drag radials on it since i wont ever drive it in any type of weather but sunny days!

I will just be scrubbing away in my engine bay with sos pads and degreaser! then paper towels galore then pray painting my engine bay to make it look nice!

yeah they are pretty stout differentials, the FC unit is actually stronger than the FD. The modified turbo 20B's etc all make mad HP up top but i doubt many of them have 400+ tq at 3000 rpms like the big V8's do.
i could probly be up there around 8-9 in the morning not sure how long i could stick around probly a few hours we'll be up at my moms if you remember where thats at ian did you end up buying that vert or did he sell it to someone else
thats cool i think im going to try and hit up the nine inch nails concert in cr trent puts on a bad *** show
hopefully metallica has a better album than the last one...
ian if i pull that motor apart would you for sure pick up those rotors cause im thinking i might just do that

Even my rear end is in danger with just a single. (they say 1.8 60ft is danger and i've done that).
They use torsen not clutch packs like the FC's.
Just swap out the Diff with the FC's. Kaaz's i hear are loud anyway.
no but they make 400+trq at 5-6k and that's were you do launch.
screw u all and ur 70 degree weather and yeah.. its 98 degrees and its 3am in the morning! yuck! i got wireless so ill be able to chat.. rather than what i was doing earlier at the internet cafe at the airports haha!!
no its like concrete kinda.. its just different.. def not the sand dunes i was expecting like in the movies.. i mean parts is but its just well different.. luckly i got wifi where i am at. but its also 5am!
