Will this microtech usb adaptor work on newer computers. I tried to download the driver first. Computer says it a unknown device. Or itsmalfunctioning. Tried this on two laptops. One has windows 8.1. The other has 7. Have searched wasted hald a day trying to fifure it out. Do I need a older computer?
Thanks

I'm using the serial adapter on a newer laptop with windows 7 so I wouldn't think you should be having an issue.

Have you looked in device manager to see that it's recognized when plugged in by the com port ?

Did you actually install the driver?

If the driver has just extracted, then right click on the Unknown Device and select "Update Driver". Browse to the location containing the driver.

But did you specifically select "Browse my computer for software" and then browse to the INF file extracted with the driver?

I did browse for updated drivers. The inf file im not sure I can check later today. Last weekend I gave up. If I cant figure it out or if there is a problem w the adaptor would it be easier to buy cheap laptop.

If it's just the driver then it's an easy fix. Windows needs the location of the INF file to install the driver. When browsing you need to right down to the directory containing that file, then Windows will be able to find the rest of the driver.

Hm, looks like it may be a bad USB port or a bad dongle. As you suggest, best try it in another computer.
