The dash unit & handset are both optional extras.
The 4 line handset is $165 Aus
The dash unit is $450 Aus
They are essentially the same however the dash has a few extra features.
*Much larger display
*Programmable ultra bright 4 LED rev & gear shift indicator
*Programmable warning lights for water temp, air temp, boost, battery voltage & oil pressure. If one of these errors are detected by the dash unit the left hand high intensity orange LED will switch on & a warning message will appear on the screen. The error codes are.....Water_T,Air_T,Battery,Boost & Oil_P.
*The main display consists of a bar graph tachometer across the top line & a digital rev counter & water temp/boost pressure display on the second line. The water temp display is automatically replaced the moment positive manifold pressure is detected.
*The dash unit comes with a remote mounted toggle switch to cycle between the 4 main data screens.
screen 1....As described above
screen 2....displays engine revs & vacuum/boost on the top line & timing advance/injector open time on the second line.
screen 3....displays water & air temp on the top line & timing advance/injector open time on the second line.
screen 4....displays TPS & battery voltage on the top line & timing advance/injector open time on the bottom line.
Each press of the button cycles from one data screen to the next data screen.

its a good idea to save your maps before you start playing with something, then if it dosent work you can dump the maps back off the hand set by doing the same as above execpt going to the load memcell and holding the mode button.

I plan to get the laptop cable to making tuning easier but if I get the Dash Unit do I not need the Handset for changing maps or whatever I might want to do when I am with out my laptop?

There isn't really a need to have them both connected at the same time. They both have the same data displayed on them & you can still make adjustments with the dash unit anyway.

The dash unit doesnt look like you could use it to tune in the absence of a lap top. It doesnt have all the buttons that the hand set does. Can It still do all the things that the handset can?
