Microtech LT10s on 13B N/A - wont start! Is this normal?
LT10s on 13B N/A - wont start! Is this normal?
Hey guys, I've *FINALLY* finished wiring the Microtech to my 86 N/A. My plan was to wire it all up then take it in to my local shop to have them tune it - I don't have the dongle, software or the experience to tune it!
Anyway, I've got it all wired and buttoned up, and curiosity got the better of me, so I wanted to see if it would fire up - and it wont start.
- Switching the ignition to "ON" gives me a green light on the Microtech, and you can hear the fuel pump kick on.
- When I turn the key to the "START" position, the car turns over as normal, but does not start - the green light on the microtech goes off.
- When I release the key from the "START" position I [sometimes] get a brief single flash of the yellow LED on the Microtech.
- After cranking for a while I pulled the plug, and it's dry = no fuel. I pulled the fuel hose and there is fuel in the rail (yup, sprayed it all over...lol).
- I then pulled the L1 plug and grounded it to the block while turning it over - no spark.
So, the injectors aren't spraying, and the plugs aren't firing. IS THIS NORMAL? Does the unit have to be plugged in to a laptop or hand controller before it will work?
I want to be sure that when I take the car to the tuner, he wont need to do any rewiring or anything like that!
Thanks,
Nick

Your green light is switching off.
That is your problem
THE PINK WIRE in your harness should be getting 12v on ign AND CRANK. Your car for some reason is only getting it on ign.
Get the ign source directly from the ign barrel and check with test light or multimeter that this stays on 12v while cranking.
The reason the orange light flashes briefly when you turn the key back, is that the the microtech switches on and gets the last pulse from the crank sensor.
If your microtech was working correctly, that means you would have a flashing orange light on crank.

Thanks so much for the help! I had the pink at the ing barrel, but as you said, it went to 0 volts while cranking. Hooked it up to the +12V beside it and it fired right up!
Now I need to do a bit of troubleshooting (tach doesn't work) and have it tuned and I'll be set. Thanks again for the help!
That was an easy fix BTW - I had cut the yellow/blue wire instead of splicing into it. Attached it back and the tach worked perfectly.
Problem is now that the car stopped running!!! Seems as though I'm not getting fuel (the injectors aren't firing? Fuel pump works and there's fuel pressure in the rail) and I don't know why..... I was *supposed* to take it in to be tuned tomorrow..... but now it's more time under the hood.

I've pulled the plugs and cranked it a lot to get the gas out but I'm starting to think that it got ultra flooded, so I am going to just change the plugs, change the oil and go from there. While installing the microtech I put in upgraded injectors so it's entirely possible that the base map on the microtech simply is too rich for the car to really run. Sure, it may have started up and run for a while, but I fear that it may have just been "lucky" and was soaking the plugs in the mean time. I guess I need to have it towed to my tuner and have him get it running.
It just feels like a huge kick in the nuts that it actually ran... and now it doesn't.
Thanks!
They are 550's - problem is that I don't have the software or dongle!
I've picked up some new plugs, so I think I'm just going to have it towed to the tuner as-is. I don't want to get it running only to get into the same situation all over again!
