Using Megasquirt for Fuel only - FC

Hey guys I just picked up a MS1 V3 from a friend for cheap, it was previously used on a Ford Probe that ran 11's and worked well controlling fuel only - the spark circuit apparently had issues and is not working.

I am wanting to install it into my 87 Turbo II with some big injectors and E85, I plan on tapping into every wire I can from the stock ECU connector.

I keep reading you need to add a second CAS pickup to the ECU , but I am wondering if this is necessary for fuel control only? is there a way to trigger MS fuel injection with the existing single VR conditioner my MS1 has?

Also, Will I be able to delete the Air flow meter once it is running using MS for fuel? or would that cause the ECU to kill all the spark/spark timing?

Thanks in advance for any replies! Im looking to see how far I can take the stock turbo with e85 and MS!

Just repair the megasqurt and use it as intended. You need to do some easy mods to it to control FC3S ignition and anyway.

It won't be too hard with the schematics and support forums.

Why in the hell would you want to put a broken ECU in your car?

I dont want to mess with soldering onto the board, for fear of damaging it further, it may have just be a configuration problem with the ecu honestly.

this "broken" ECU has consistently taken my old daily driven probe to 123mph trap speeds and 11.94 ET's..

I dont need spark control, Just fuel. Stock timing will be just fine with E85

Im on a budget.

thanks

Many many years ago I did this (before MS supported Rotary ignition).

Yes it can work.
Yes you can pull RPM from the leading coil and feed that into the MS.
No, you will not need the AFM anymore.

Keep in mind that the stock ECU will stop retarding timing after 9 psi (I think it's 9).

A much better solution is to repair the MS, get it all tested out and then use it for fuel and ignition control. In the long run you will save yourself a lot of time and money by going that route.

John, thank you for the helpful reply, good to hear from someone has actually done this, (though I knew it had).

So I can use the leading coil trigger wire output from the ECU as the RPM wire into the megasquirt and it will pulse the primary/secondary injectors at the correct time (with proper tuning of course) without the need for the Crank angle sensor being hooked up?

You guys talked me into repairing it for sure, but I will be waiting until I go big turbo, good to know about no timing retard after 9psi. I dont plan on going too far past that and E85 should help with detonation resistance quite a bit.

Now I just gotta figure out what injectors I can run with the stock rail and if I should use low or high impedance...

Repair the ECU mate. And E85 is a complete waste of time on that turbo. Been there done that.

Boost up the standard turbo to between 10 and 13psi. Make sure you have a loose exhaust (3" turbo back minimum), high flow intake, upgraded intercooler. Easy and very torquey and responsive 220rwhp without the bother.

Turns out I just bought 4x720cc Denso low imp. Injectors , Im thinking I will be using these with megasquirt and I want to give e85 a shot because I have seen the improvements in detonation resistance and the timing you can run safely on other boosted Mazdas, as long as it's tune adds the required roughly 30% more fuel.

Ive currently got a Catless exhaust that runs the stock piping I do have a 3 inch downpipe I could bolt on for the track but I just don't have good boost control with the mildly ported stock wastegate/turbo.

Im also wondering the easiest way to get into the 12's on the stock turbo...
