Did it today and still nothing. The LED did not flash when turning the CAS. Any more ideas?

if you don't ave a signal from the lm1815 circuit it can never work, can you verify the wiring to the CAS and mabe try a different cas, also verify the lm1815 circuit.. did you also try the output of the other onboard VR conditioner, it is explained somewhere the megamanual were the output is fed to the MS2

It might be an idea to just send the HW side to DIY and let them sort it out. Sounds like this would reduce your frustration and uncertainty by half.

okay, here's a quick update for anyone following this saga. there is some good and of course, some bad.

the good ...

as of yesterday, i confirmed the CAS signal is going in. Rub20B gave me the best idea with that LED rig. basically, i had an epiphany when i woke up one morning and it led me to check all the jumpers. sure enough, the JP5 (if i recall) was not installed. once i installed it, the LED lit up and when you turn the CAS by hand, i got good pulses on the LED. this result came at the best time, too, because we were both beyond frustration, plus i was feeling guilty for making him let me do all of this stuff to his car. needless to say, i smiled for the first time about this project in many months.

the bad ...

still no spark at the plugs.

also, somehow, between the last time i was here with the car and today, it seems the bloody USB cable that connects to the Megasquirt is acting the ***. i can't get the MegaSquirt online with the laptop so i can't see if i'm at least getting RPM readings in TunerStudio when cranking. so that where it stands at the moment. i should be able to go home and get the driver CD for the cable and come back later, hopefully i can get some more good news.

thanks all.

good to hear you made atleast some prgress:p

now if you have both outputs working well, so the one for 2tooth and the one for the 24 tooth VR you should see a steady rpm reading in megatune and it should say synced in the bottom right corner of the screen.. to try this you can use compressed air and point it at the cas gear.. offcourse don't power the fuelpump as otherwise the engine will run full of fuel =)

still not getting the laptop and MegaSquirt to play nice. i think i'm going to look for another cable or maybe a different connector altogether. so i'm working on it.

anyway, i logged in because i actually have one other question. should there be a jumper on any of the JP1 poles? (i'm talking about the 6 poles labeled JP1 on the secondary board, not the 3 poles on the main board. i already have 1-2 jumpered as instructed earlier in the thread.) i haven't done anything with them (the 6) since loading the firmware, but seeing how my oversight of the JP5 jumper led to such huge problems, it has me wondering now if maybe they could be why it's not sparking at the plug.

anyway, just wondering. my hands are tied until i can get the MegaSquirt back live in TunerStudio.

I don't own a ms2, but in my **** kdfi the ftdi usb chip liked to act up and eventually die, so I just used a max232 and used a serial cable, and now it's working much more stable and reliable

update:

i decided to start from scratch, so i reloaded the firmware. at first i was using 3.03u, but it said it was an Alpha version, so i decided to try 2.10. i got it back online with 2.10, but then i got error messages when it came on in Tuner Studio (something about 70 different values or something), so i went back to 3.03.

the problem that i'm having now is this: it will go online ONLY when the JP5 jumper is not connected. however, from my earlier test, the ignition circuits are only activated when the JP5 jumper is on. this is obviously a problem and i'm not sure where to go from here.
