Lost spark,again.....grrrrrrrr

Many of you know all the issues Ive had with ignition and MS. After taking a break from sheer frustration and coming back to it today,I had lost spark for the 20th time. I've decided to remove the megasquirt, innovative wideband and the rotary engine alltogether and drop in a V8. I just do not have any more time or patience. I can easily drop in a V8 and have time to spare compared to the hundreds of hours wasted with MS. So Im posting this because I will have a lot of nice rotary parts posting on ebay very shortly. A brief list will follow. Anyone wanting to know when thier posted can email or message me. First the big ticket items I have a rebuilt 6 port 13B all new apex seals and bearings/seals with approx 1,000 miles since the rebuild..nothing wrong with it. I have a cartech turbo kit designed to fit 1986 to 1988 6 port 13B's thats complete with a rebuilt turbo and air to liquid intercooler. I also have a ERL aquamist water injuection system 1S thats complete as well as a NX wet nitrous system with spare tank and purge vavle. Then theres the innovative wideband LC1 with the 02 heat sink. And of course the megasquirt itself V3 board already RX modded. I will not sell directly only through ebay. So asking or posting prices is useless, if you want something feel free to ask about it. Whoever the highest bidder is determines the selling price. Thank you.

sorry to hear it man, I almost wish someone else was having the same problems so they could help you...

were you running with 2 teeth cut out of your CAS? I might be able to come up with reasons why your spark is intermittant if so.

Thanks guys appreciate it. I have always wanted V8 torque and the cheap parts rebuilds accociated with them. I thought it would make the car handle like crap but upon reading into it I discovered thats not true. I also loctaed a TPI 350 engine and trans as well as ECU for 600.00 with verified 77k miles so thats why I finally decided to go with it. Grannysspeedshop.com has all the V8 swap info. As far as additional troubleshooting on the no spark issue ,I have given up. I have zero motivation or interest in finding out whats wrong. In a hour Im going to go pick up my new V8. Im hoping to have time on sunday to start taking pictures of what the turbo kit looks like installed and start the removal process.

:: shakes head :: felix wankel and the mazda engineers never gave up did they? you never should have owned a mazda rx7, knowing good and well that anything you did to it would have consiquences. you never gave it your all. in my opinion the margin between something done good and somethiong done great is 3% more energy. if you could have simply taken a break for 1 month or so, then you my friend would be driving it by the time oyu get your v8 swapped in. but no. o well...

just curious if you used the fc setup? it might be possible that the original ignitors and coils might be going bad? or maybe low primary voltage. bad plugs? lately i have been getting a lot of plugs that have been shorting out.

turbosa22,I wish it were that simple. I was using a FC set up. The coils, ignitors and voltage was good I checked. Also replaced the plugs many times. Ask Muy its a weird problem and dosnt make sense. Ive had intermitten spark since day 1. Its been 4 months since I started the megasquirt project. I spent hundreds of hours trying to resolve it. Its to the point where if I want to drive it this summer something has to change and thats going to be the engine. This has been a 5 yr project. The car is repainted, seam welded..reupholstered and looks great but just never runs quite right. Ive decided to go with a domestic pushrod engine because support is easy to come by parts as well. Also much cheaper to rebuild and tons of aftermarket support. I finally got my LT1 home and Im looking forward to placing it in its new home(the rx7). Im working on setting it on my engine stand and then removing the 13B tonight. I still like rotaries but 270hp and close to that in torque is just hard to pass up on a stock factory equipped engine especially for 500.00.

I still want to know if you were running 12-1 (did you cut 2 teeth out of your CAS). Is that what you were running?

Yes I did remove 2 teeth from the CAS and configured mt for a 12-1 wheel. I also changed to 1,3,7,9 and every other option for the trigger return. No matter what spark is gone. Its already removed ..the MS anyways so further testing/troubleshooting is not possible.

I had some problems with trigger return also. Time based is fairly versatile it seems...
Of course, if you're talking about cranking. If it just lost spark with it was running and driving, well that is something else entirely. Anyways, good luck with the lt1, should be a lot of fun. Take some pics!

I thinking of taking step by step pics if anyones interested?? Seems the lt1 is pretty common and the conversion isnt really too difficult. I already measured and it really will fit with room to spare. Im making my own brackets to mount it since I have tons of heave guage steel and a new mig. I also want it mounted as far back as possible. I just ordered a JET chip for the stock ecu and that bumps the hp to just over 300 on pump gas with factory reliability. I wish rotaries were this simple to modify. I also have been looking over the lt1 wiring loom and so far its much simplier than mazda wiring IMHO. I am not intimidated by this conversion at all, fabrication is what I do best. Im sourcing a t56 6 speed as of right now it came with a auto slush box. The engine is a greasy hulk right now not as pretty as the 13B. I found 10 books specific to LT1's at my local book store everything from ecu pinouts and wiring to mounting in cars it wasnt originally designed for. So far everything I need/wanted was just a drive to the local auto parts/book store,Shawn

I'm willing to bet that with 12-1 you just had the CAS wires polarity backwards. I had a similar problem recently with my ae86 with a 20valve conversion. spark was intermittant as well as rpm readings... switch the wires and all was good.

Guess thats possible, but my RPM was never intermitten. My RPM always read even with no spark. Makes ya wonder.

Tonight just for the sake of arguement I checked the CAS wiring.,it was correct. I also saw that I had already had that connection apart so I know I hooked it up backwards and correctly and spark was gone either way. I removed the engine tonight and will be taking pics and posting everything on ebay this weekend. If anyone wants a link speak up.
