Cranks but no start.

Alright to start off i'm working with the MS2 V3.0 board. First had problems with the RPm not showing, gave the squirt to Aaron Cake from the forum and helped me out figure that out. Now when I crank i get an rpm (It only registers about 83rpm seems awfly low.) Map shows low 90 high 80 kpa. As far as my LED's on the megasquirt, when I try to crank it the only light that does anything is the IGNTS, it goes off when trying to crank it. The megasquirt does register that it is in cranking mode.

From what I can tell, I don't think the spark plugs are firing nor the injectors. I assume you're suppose to hear a ticking sound when they do correct? if so I don't hear anything.

Where would be the first place to look to correct this.

I have already set the TPS closed and WOT positions. Coolant and air registering about -1 degrees.

Just wanted to confirm that actually no spark was coming out. I took out the wire and placed it on a ground source with no sparking.

83RPM is very low. Has the CAS wiring been corrected since it was tested last time?

At the very least you need to run 4 seperate wires for Ne- and +, G+ and - to the 'Squirt and don't just ground the negatives to a single ground point.

What happens if you spin the CAS by hand?

Not sure what happens as I did not have an extra pair of hand to test it out. But on one of the times trying to crank it, it was floating around 300rpm which would be more correct. As soon as I get an extra pair of hands I'll try to do that. Also I will rewire everything once that cable comes in. Might as well rule that out I guess before I start fidling with everything else.

The CAS is very sensitive to noise and grounding. On the bench, you can get away with almost anything. But in the car the starter and alternator generate a lot of noise that will interfere with the circuit.

Noise on +12v will also throw off readings from the CAS, or any other VR sensor.

Cool thanks guys. Maybe what I'll do is run all my external ground, and power inside the car to provide less noise all around.

And make sure that the shielded CAS wires ground only to the DB37.

Not meaning to hijack this guy's thread....but Aaron or Ken, is there a different shielded cable that others use that has a better shield that we can use for CAS wiring? My plan is to not use the EM harness on the driver's side for CAS wiring, but rather run separate wiring across the right side of the engine and through the pass. side firewall grommet to my Megasquirt. I've never been fond of having a VR sensor signal running alongside the alt. charging wire such as oem.

You can actually make your own cable if you want... just get some wire, twist the pairs (Ne+/-, and G+/-) then get one of the metal shields designed for this purpose from diyautotune or rsautosport, and run the wires through there.
