So whats the deal with the newer STI's? Do their top end suck?

^^^ Are you sure the GT-S(t) were RWD?

The ATTESA AWD system found on Skyline GTRs sets 100% of the torque to the rear wheels under normal conditions. Up to 50% of the torque goes to the front wheels in the event that the computer sees the need to(based off of steering angle, throttle input, and speed).

The GTS-T's were simply RWD.

Sorry that I didn't clarify that it's only the GTRs that switch between AWD and RWD. It's just hard to remember the lesser of the two even exists.

It may be RWD 99% of the time, however, the front diff is still there, and assuming it's a vLSD, will still generate driveline loss while driving in RWD mode. If it's a clutch, or (shudder) open diff, it'll have driveline loss still but much less than a vLSD.

The front diff, axles, joints, etc. also weigh a bunch. This is why some Subies don't show much improvement just by welding up the center diff and pulling the CV joints. You still have the front diff, and axles.

All I know is that the standard GTR front diff is an open type. I'm not sure how much parasitic loss it's creating when there's no power going to it, but it can't be as bad as constantly having power.

If it's an open diff, it wouln't be too much, maybe 2% of the total power output the engine makes (should increase as the car goes faster).

A Subie with a vLSD (center) and two open (front and rear) loses 10-15% of the total power to drive train. A 165 crank hp motor puts about 130-135 hp to the wheels. Adding a rear LSD (viscious) can bump that up, but usually not much. 165 chp - 120-120 at the wheels.

The clutch type they use in the STi can vary, it uses a clutch (center) and two vLSDs (front rear), IIRC, so 300 at the crank is usually about 240-250 at the wheels, though it depends on the dyno.

10-15% sounds a little too low for anything short of FWD. Evo's and STI's lose 25-30% through the drivetrain, and RWD is right in the middle at around 20% depending on the driveshaft length and material.

Either way, having a RWD car that can launch like an AWD car is still badass. I'm tired of people trying to take my Evo from a roll just because they keep hearing that they're "slow" that way.

Sorry to do this but you did not put 2 buses on a 03 STi because there is no such car.It had to of been a 03 WRX which is a different engine(i have one)it only comes 227hp stock so haveing 320 in a wrx is different then having 320hp in a STi.1st gen STi in america is 04-05 and now the 06 that just came out.
I have a friend thats pushing 500+ in his 05 STi and I 've been with him when he pushes it and that bitch hauls ***.Just as much as any moded FD i've been in

Short version.

Dude passes me on the freeway and his car looked nice so I speed up to check it out. He punches it as I'm approaching. I pursue just for fun. I let off and so does he and at that moment he lets off a big flame. Obviously modded cool.

I try to line up with him and he punches it before I get the chance to line up even with him. So I WOT From 80 MPH and over take him with ease. As I'm passing him I can easily read the STi badge on his rear end. I shut down at 120 ish after I got about a 1-2 cars lenghts on him and it looked like the gap would have kept increasing.

I don't get it? This cars are supposed to have 300 Flywheel HP from the factory. This guy was modded so I'd figure he would do much better against me. Maybe their top end is not that good. Anyone know for sure?

Mods in sig

At the time I had:
Mild Streetport
M2 CAI
PFS SMIC
DP
MP
RB dual tip Catback
Tuned Power FC
Greddy profec B spec II set @ 12psi
non sequential twins

I think that's it. In the future I'll just retype the current mods as mods can change.
