So whats the deal with the newer STI's? Do their top end suck?

Hmm, I thougnht there were a few over here... Not a surprise though. The USDM doens't get any of the neat stuff that othre countries get, like the Skyline, and STi spec C, and the Forester STi.

/\ for only a couple of seconds. then youll start pulling on there *** (modded or not)

car and driver topped the lancer 7 at 153mph saying it was gear limited
the best 4wd was the celica gt-four (ST-205)

By the way, the guy was lowered, wingless, with rims, and an aftermarket catback. That's what cought my eye in the first place.

If anything, I'm tempted to keep my Subie and put an FC RWD gearbox in it. Save some weight, and have a better top end. :p But I like hauling butt on logging roads too much to give up AWD (there's a kit that can be used to convert from AWD to RWD in a matter of hours without dropping the entire tranny, but it's a PITA to install in the first place). Not to mention, I'd have to find a new rear end if I went RWD. :p The stock FC gear ratios would be a little... Wrong for a H4 NA car, I think a little short (FC redlines at 9k, right? Though there is a valvetrain upgrade that lets the Subies with H4's run 11k rpms reliably, just a little expensive).
Sorry, my bi-polar is kicking into manic, I just can't stop. :o

Reno: [quote]Nor did we get the FTO...i love the way those cars look.[?quote]
Damn straight.
dark: I was actually hoping to find that car, when I was about to buy a Celica. Sadly enough, we got stuck with the FWD cars...yay.

yes it's a word:
Noun: stupid st(y)oopid
A person who is not very bright
"The economy, stupid!"
- stupid person, stupe, dullard, dolt, pudding head, pudden-head [US], poor fish
Adjective: stupid (stupider,stupidest) st(y)oopid
Lacking or marked by lack of intellectual acuity
In a state of mental numbness especially as resulting from shock
"lay semiconscious, stupid by the blow"; "was stupid from fatigue"
- dazed, stunned, stupefied
Lacking intelligence
- unintelligent
I still stand by my statement of it being a stupid *** mod with no real power added as all it does is make people *think* that you are fast. And as far as owning an STi, evo becuase it's one of the best all around cars... can't do it. I just can't overcome the ugly factor. sorry

AWD = superior traction.
AWD = More driveline loss due to friction in the 3 diffs that the tranny happens to have.
AWD = More weight.
AWD = More weight up front, due to the location of the gearbox and the front components of the tranny.
There's video up on Streetfire of an AWD Skyline lighting up all 4, then topping out at 205 mph. It took it roughly 23 seconds to go from a stop to 205 mph. That's less time than it takes my current AWD Subaru to go from a stop to 120 mph.
