hey dumpster, check this out.
"The Boxer engine, first patented by German engineer Karl Benz"
boxer engine....first patented. the actual name of the damn engine, isssss. boxer. can also be called a Horizontally opposed engine. or HO engine.
"The boxer engine (also known as a horizontally opposed engine) in which the corresponding pistons reach top dead centre simultaneously"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_engine

http://www.subaru.com/shop/overview....mmand=overview
guess what, go to subaru's own website, guess what its called. BOXER! wow isnt that ******* amazing? talk about pwned. you go to they're own damn website and its called that. probably the same on porsche website too. isnt that amazing when the manufacturer and designers of the engine call it boxer engine?

and one for the road

just because you havent heard it before doesnt mean it doesnt exist.. it just means you dont know what the **** you are talking about. if anything, boxer is the slang version of flat 4.. i dont get why you even give a ****.. but its pretty hilarious that you are so up in arms about something you obviously dont know about lol

here you go

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat-4

taste the pwn
The question is ARE YOU ******* retarded. Boxer is slang for flat 4? LOL that just made my day. I guess it is kinda strange that subaru and porsche would name there motor a "slang" name. It seems to me that you are just butting in because you think anyone cares about what you think. It doesnt matter if you think its a slang name, or if its the actual name. I find it pretty hilarious you went to wikipedia to attempt to prove me wrong. Go to subarus or porsches website, trust me you will not see it called the flat 4. Now its your turn to "taste the pwn", dumbass.

I think this all started with what you said above. It suggests that he is wrong and you tried to correct him earlier. Would it be wrong if I said "wankel engine" instead of "rotary" engine? Because on Mazda's website they call it "rotary". Same thing.

Porsche's website says horizontally opposed

Well as im sure you know, the reason its called a wankel, is because of felix wankel. Rotary is the actual engine name. Not really the same thing, but hey, we'll go with it.

i guess ill do this one too.. since my point obviously flew right the hell over your head

i am well ******* aware that porsche and subaru call the design boxer... you dont have to be the most knowledgeable car person in the world to know that, as you have so deftly illustrated. what i was getting at with the slang comment is that boxer is more of a marketing term than a good description of the format.. they call it boxer because it is still somewhat descriptive, but sounds at least 100 times more badass than flat 4 or horizontally opposed 4 or whatever, but most of us know the terms are all interchangable.

think of all the other common names for engine configurations... they are all pretty self explanatory

inline 4
straight 6
straight 8
90 deg v6
rotary

and then you have boxer. this is kind of like you guys arguing that if you call VTEC a variable valve timing system people will laugh at you... the only people that might laugh would be the ricers in the parking lot that dont know that both terms mean essentially the same thing. its just marketing jargon.. another name for the less romantic sounding flat 4.... and this is the kill section, so if someone gets their vagina all twisted up over something that they are obviously clueless about, i think it is in good taste to step in and expose it.. thats why god invented the internets

you say it went over my head. so i asked a bunch of people i know. that don't know much about cars. i asked them what do they call the engine in porshes. boxers. i asked others what do they call the engine in the sti's. boxers. so obviously these guys who dont know much about cars that i see on a daily basis. know what the hell a boxer engine is. i dont know what people you talk to, but they must be ******* idiots or something.

Damn I have had a good laugh at all the bull **** bickering about the boxer engine. I WILL CHANGE THIS BY SAYING THAT I HAVE BOTH CARS AND WILL GIVE YOU MY 2 CENTS CAUSE IT IS 20 YEARS WORTH OF IT , SO PLEASE DON'T START A NEW ARGUMENT TO GO BACK AND FORTH WITH.
Oye boriqua , aqui tienes mi opinion.
In English, here is my opinion.
Understand that I have had all 3 generations of Rx7's and currently own an 07 STI.
I unerstand that you are talking about a 2nd gen RX against a 04-07 STI. Both cars stock , he is going to rip you a new one.
If the STI has an exaust and intake , it will not make a differance in HP if it still has the cats. We are talking about 240 awhp to the wheels stock on a 3k lbs car and with AWD. To beat his stock you will need at least a a 13b with an exaust port and high flowing turbo back exaust running a minimum 10 psi of boost on an upgraded turbo. You would need to produce at least 240 rwhp to keep up to his stock set up.
You will always have the disadvantage of RWD To AWD. So don't step on it at take off , if you spin the tires you'll be srewed, He doesn't have that problem with AWD.
If you have an intake and exaust port and can produce over 300rwhp you will take his with the stock set up . JUST REMEMBER , don't spin the wheels on take off.
As for the STI with no cats, a Cobb AP Stage 2 or 3
and a protune, I will be making around 340awhp and 375 lbs torque. If he does have this set up you would at least have to go with a T66 to make up for the lack of torque you would have with smaller turbos on the wenkels.
There is more to this but I would have to be here all night wrighting with one finger on these f---- small keys.
You have to take into consideration many things being that they are two differant animals and they are both f---- fast when moded. You have the benifit of the 8k redline and smooth acelaration while he has the benifit of AWD and good torque. So make sure you have a set of good coilovers and good tires and you have a good protune to match the horse power and grip on the road .
And another advice is to stay away from the curves on the secoundary roads in PR you'll wind up going down one of those '' Barrancos'' trying to keep up with him. Race him on '' La AutoPista # 22 ''.

I bealive the First gen moded would be the best to put up against the Sti cause of it being so damn nimble compared to the 2nd & 3rd gen.
Give me a pm if you have any ??? I will be happy help a fellow PRican

i ran an 05 sti with cold air intake, exhaust, on 16psi, all i had was catback stock turbo on 9-10psi and a fucked turbo(2 weeks later found it was missing an impeller blade) and kept up with him until about 170kph the he started to pull slowly, you should **** it in

You do realize if the sti is stock it is only rated for 300hp at the flywheel. The 4 wheel drive takes about 20%(could be even more) or so loss in power to the wheels, so your looking at about 240whp give or take. If your FC has some things i the way of horsepower done to it(Im not talking just a K&N "hot air intake" and likewise) you should win if you can drive the car right. Now I would like to know why you had to post to see if you should race? It's not really that serious or anything. If you win great, if you loose who cares because it's just for fun.

They would all beat the STI, but only if they had T-66s.
